I get what you mean by bed space there, but will offer this suggestion if one has a very work oriented pickup and needs height too. You can get swaged or looped end cables like people might recognize as bike locks but 15 to 20 ft lengths and lock them to the D rings in bed.

The commercial vs hobby or sport type truck supply places in a lot of metro areas and some truck stop shops have more hardware to help secure boxes and other stuff. Master Lock as a brand has stuff that helps. Those shops I describe here often stock them if you wish to have hands on before you buy.
