$1k?!?! Wow that’s wayyy over priced!
I realize you might not want to spend that kind of money on this, but from my perspective, it’s actually a pretty reasonable option. I got a couple of quotes to have mine done, and both were significantly higher. So I’ve decided to try it myself and share photos once I’m finished.

The film I’m buying costs about $85. I’m planning to start with the pillars to see how it turns out. If I like the result, I might go ahead and wrap the top of the cab as well.

At $85, it’s a relatively low-risk investment. If it looks good, I can always redo it in four years—assuming I still have the vehicle—and the overall cost to keep it looking sharp is pretty affordable.

I also own a business, and my vehicles (currently six of them) have decals. I’ve been applying the decals myself for years, and I actually enjoy the process.

Just to give you some perspective: the last quote I received was a little over $400 to apply decals to one car. I ended up doing it myself for $50, and in my opinion, it looks just as good—if not better—than what the pros offer.

I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out!

Well I finally got it wrapped and I am debating whether to do the very top roof portion. I wrapped the pillars and the cab edges. Like I stated in the previous post, I did it myself and spent a little under $100 to do those pillars and cab edges. I still have some touching up to do because I did it late last night and this afternoon but I do think it looks $100 better IMHO. I didn't wrap the hood scoop but I did order a black one that I placed on it that matches the gloss black. If I had to do it again, I would have gone with a matte black instead. Gloss shows all imperfections.

I think they should make it an option on the limited and sports to have the top of the cab painted and not just the Pro and Trail hunter. My guess is that they could upcharge these as well and make even more. If it would have been a $500 option I would have gladly paid it. I am guessing when they paint it in the factory the cost wouldn't be that bad when producing it compared to now. Wrapping the back corner was a pain in the @ss btw............... It was my first time and I "learned on the job". The more heat, the better. (y)

That looks good. From the side it looks like the whole roof!

I don’t think I’ll end up doing the top of the cab. The black accents on the truck are already pretty dominant, so it doesn’t look out of place or like something’s missing.

The hood scoop, door handle insets, Tacoma badging, grille, XM antenna on the roof, and side door pillars all have black accents that contrast nicely with the Solar Octane paint. So the black pillars just add to the overall effect.

Before I wrapped it, I actually took a picture of the truck and used an editing tool to add black to the pillars. I thought it made everything pop, which is what ultimately convinced me to go through with it.

What I like most is how unique my truck is. Hybrid Solar Octane Tacomas are already pretty rare—but now, with the black accents, I might have a true “one of one” out on the road!

Have you come across a pre-cut vinyl that goes on the upper part of the tailgate, above the handle?

No, I haven’t.

None of the pieces I used were pre-cut. I just bought a 5' x 8' roll and worked from there.

The roll, along with the cut tape, cost a little over $80. I actually have enough left over to do the part you mentioned, but to be honest, I hadn’t even considered that until you brought it up.

For now, I’m going to drive it around and let everything settle in before I decide whether to add more. The old saying, “less is more,” might really apply in this case.

I have added another angle.

I would wrap enough above the windshield and rear window so it looks like a complete job, but doesn’t have to be fully wrapped. I personally would want a complete black appearance.
