First heavy load in lifted OR

I transported my loaded 235 engine from San Jose to Santa Cruz, this is a fast California highway with turns and elevation. With the bell housing and accessories, an estimated 900 lbs. Far less than the listed 1,705 payload.

Some background, this is my third Toy, and my previous 99’ OR was pretty much lifted identically. The 24’ has a composite bed, so I had concerns I’d rip the tie downs out of the bed.

With the center of gravity raised due to the lift and the additional weight, I expected to feel some difference, but it did well. The OR has the pitch and roll indicator, but I didn’t really see much variance in indication. Overall it did just fine, other than feeling less control up front. I am guessing that all the weight in the back is lifting the front wheels up. Compared to the 99’ with a six foot bed, this was a bit different. I had more control in the old truck when moving engines.

Last, the tie-downs and bed mat were fine. Even the oil washed off the TripleA mat very well. The gas mileage dropped a bit, being 12.1 for the trip. This isn’t bad for me, as my truck sees 12 to 13 in traffic, down from 16 pre-modifications.

I would suggest the OEM bed mat. Nice and thick and not slippery.
