Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a quick fix for a frustrating issue I recently ran into with my AlphaRex NOVA Series headlights on my 2025 Tacoma TRD Sport.After getting a warranty replacement for my headlights due to a previous moisture issue, I installed the brand-new set with the DRL harness connected perfectly in parallel. Everything worked fine (lows, highs, DRLs), but there was one annoying problem: The startup/welcome animation was completely out of sync. One headlight would start the sequence about 1 full second after the other.Most people in the forums assume this is a defective microprocessor inside one of the AlphaRex headlights and opt for another return. However, the issue is actually caused by the Tacoma's Body Control Module (BCM). The truck's computer memorizes the resistance of the old headlights and can send asymmetrical voltage signals to protect the circuit, causing one side to turn on a millisecond late.Here is the exact Hard Reset / Deep Sleep cycle process that fixed it for me and perfectly synchronized both animations
isconnect the Battery: Disconnect only the negative (-) terminal of your Tacoma's battery.Wait 30 Minutes: Leave it disconnected for a full 30 minutes to completely drain the capacitors in both the truck's modules and the AlphaRex headlights.Reconnect: Securely tighten the negative terminal back on (try to avoid letting the terminal spark repeatedly when putting it back).Trigger BCM Deep Sleep (Crucial Step): After reconnecting, turn the truck off, close all doors, the hood, and the tailgate. Move your Smart Key fob at least 30 feet (10 meters) away from the truck so it stops communicating with it. Leave the truck completely untouched for 15 minutes. This forces the BCM to clear temporary error caches and reset power distribution.Re-educate the System: Get in the truck, turn the ignition to "ON" (accessory mode, don't start the engine), and manually cycle your headlight switch from OFF to ON 3 or 4 times. Then, start the engine.If you did it right, the BCM will read the exact same electrical resistance on both sides simultaneously. My headlights are now 100% synchronized and firing up perfectly at the same time.Hope this saves someone from a headache and a needless RMA process!
