I've seen a lot of threads about hidden winch mounts and ways to access the clutch lever. Most seem to involve some kind of "work around". I am looking for recommendations for the simplest option to mount an Apex Badlands 12K winch to the front of TRD off road that will allow access to the freespool clutch lever and, ideally, some visibility on the spool itself. Thanks!

FYI they have two different versions, the Covert like I have and the Super Covert like Tfouts has. Both have there advantages and disadvantages. Good luck with your purchase!

Yes, they do have two versions; the super covert does not involve any front sensor relocations, fog, lights, or radar unit relocation. Just cut the plastic out where the bumper goes in and put the front grill back on. No recalibration needed. There are a couple of older threads from last year regarding both. If you go with CBI just be advised they have a long lead time. Sometimes other shops have CBI bumpers in stock so check around.

@TFOUTS - Did you have to relocate the control box on the winch when you installed it with the super covert?

I did not have to relocate the control box. There was enough space between the top of the winch, and the horizontal plastic that is in front of the air conditioning fins or coils. But I did relocate (forgot what it’s called) the little speaker that puts out a sound to simulate an engine running, when it’s only the hybrid motor running. They use that speaker so pedestrians can hear some resemblance of a vehicle coming behind them. I moved that up higher and attached it to the metal upright in front of the air-conditioning coils. I have a photo of what that is. Just don’t remember the name of it. In the photo, that black framing with the white tabs just below where you see the speaker, that also has to come out. That’s a mounting spot for the old plastic pieces that are cut out.
