You really need to drive a Tacoma with it. I always use mine, better field of view and clearer. You switch it back to normal mode and it is just a regular old mirror. If you had it, you would prefer it. As you stated you can view it on the big screen just not full time. You can tap the camera button behind the shifter, and it will come up for a few seconds, I've found that useful to looking at something in the bed while driving. I have mine set to come on automatically under 10 mph but for the front and overhead view, helps with parking. I wish Toyota would allow the cameras to record like in Tesla's. I had to add a dash cam, but I already have a forward-facing camera, just allow it to record in a loop to an SD card or thumb drive.Well that's fair, then. The few I've encountered in the past have been completely useless when powered off or have had a reflective surface that was next-to-useless in "normal mirror" mode.
