Hello, I recently just bought my 2024 SR5 and I’ve gotten a mixed review on if weather or not to install my K&N cold air intake, some saying I shouldn’t because I would need a tune. Does anyone know if I would need a tune or overall just doesn’t recommend the intake?

Well, the stock intake is cold. Here's something to consider:

I'd take this study used here on Nicoclub with a gigantic grain of salt.

Ultimately, K&N filter will not filter as well as OEM paper. Aftermarket cheap paper will not filter or be as efficient as OEM paper or K&N.

If you want more spool noise and maybe 1 butt dyno HP, there's a Toyota part, PTR03-35240

I've got two of these, one to clean and one to run.

I go offroad occasionally in dusty conditions and despite that I'm pretty confident the K&N won't be the end of my rig. It'll probably be a distracted driver :cwl:

Change your oil frequently, no air or oil filter is perfect.

I hope it works out for you and your engine. This too is an interesting take on K&Ns:

I also don't like this test because he misses a crucial piece of how an air filter works.

First of all almost all airboxes pull UP into the filter. This way gravity can do some of the filtering for you, how convenient.

Secondly, how well the filter seals is probably more important than the quality of the filter itself and his test ignores this almost completely.

I think if he did this a different way, making an airtight seal with the filter, and pulling using an equivalent vacuum force of a common engine, he'd find there is a lot less dust getting through any of the filters.

Look, you think K&N are great, I don't.

Who knows who's right? I hope yours works for you. I'll stick with non-oiled quality paper filters.
I mean I don't think it's great or not, they're just a choice. Not going to shill but I think the anti oiled fabric filter stuff is a little overblown. In the tuner car scene they're much more prominent than here on trucks and almost never the cause of engine failure lol

There's definitely worse ways to harm your vehicle through modification than a K&N setup.

OP has both sides of the argument now and can make an informed decision :geek:
