OK, so I received the Mabett Gast strut kit yesterday, got it installed - Super straightforward install, the Brackets look and fit like OE parts, and the set works great!
I have a Trailhunter so Hybryd - a minor complication to the install - it has a coolant reservoir for the battery system on the passenger side, which occupies the bolt hole for the lower bracket.
It's just a matter of removine BOTH bolts from the reservoir, slipping the bracket between the inner fender and the reservoir, and reinstalling the bolts. (the rear one is tricky if you aren't good with your fingertips! stuff a rag underneath to stop dropped bolts!)
You'll need a 12mm socket, Ratchet, 3 inch extension, and a 12mm box wrench (ratcheting boxwrench is ideal)
Next TIP; use theplastic bag from a gas strut over the head of hte hood hings bolts to protect the paint!)
Remove the forward bolt, place the appropriate bracket, reinstall the bolt - do the other side.
(Didn't get pics of this...)
The driver's side lower bracket is where you'll need the box wrench. Remove the existing bolt, pop the bracket in, Install the bolt.
Passenger side as noted, remove BOTH bolts from the hybrid coolant res. the FRONT use the ratched and 3 inch extension, the rear, just the ratchet and socket. Tip out the tankenough to slip the bracket behind, and reinstall the bolts. I considered a washer between the rear tab and inner fender to avoid putting tension on the tank - for me it wasn't necessary - once I snugged up the front bolt, the rear tab was flat to the inner fender.
Next is the slightly tricky part - easy if you have a helper, or are in a garage and can sling a strap to the hood from above. Installing the struts.
The instructions call for clipping the bottom passenger side first (oh, TIP 3; make sure to tighten the ends on the struts, they may be loose and can unscrew over time.Plastic so just firmly snug.)
SInce I was in the driveway without extra hands, I clipped the bottom passenger side on First, then the tough part, Grab the top and compress it to snap it in place.(I wish I took video)
aftet that, I unhooked the prop rod and stowed it, the hood stayed up on one strut1
Now the driver's side was just pop it in place.
Done1 15 minutes.
This is how it should have come from the factory!!!
