@Mabett posted a query requesting people to test their products. I requested to test their Tacoma Bed Mounted ratchet straps - and was fortunate enough to be selected.... so here goes!
The box arrived, taped closed and in perfect condition. Please see the pictures.
Packaging:
The packaging is superb. The two ratchet straps were individually bagged. The fasteners, plastic washers, Allen wrench and installation back plate were separately packaged in a zip-locked bag.
The instruction sheet was 'clear enough'.
They're are two holes in the Ratchet Strap mounts but the instructions do not detail which one should be utilized. I used the top one after confirming that my OEM tri-fold bed cover would close with them in place on the bed rails.
Installation preparation:
I placed a plastic washer over each of the 4 Allen head mounting bolts and through the top (upper) mounting holes of the mounting / backing plate.
I tightened each allen head screw until I saw that it was even with the rear backing plate so I could readily slide them into the bed rails.
Installation:
I opened the OEM bed cover and removed the keepers (just push & pull) and skid the mounting/ backing plate into the channel of the bed rail (both sides).
Note: push the mounting plate passed the first round head mounting screw (attaches the bed rail to the truck bed).
I used the included allen wrench to tighten the 4 Allen head screws (2 on each side). Done.
Please note that the hook sits at the TOP of the ratchet strap.... NOT the bottom.
Operation:
the instructions are a bit unclear so you'll need to use some common sense to use these ratchet straps.
You will use the handle to release the strap and to cinch it up. It's easy to figure out.
Final analysis: nice straps and mechanism that mounts to the bed rails. They appear to be a good quality and time will tell about their durability.
Caution: until I have some load securing experience with these, I don't think that I will use them to secure "heavy" loads.
Is again to Mabett 4th Gen Tacoma Garage for sending these to me to test!
