I called the local automotive electronics shop a few months ago about installing a starter and was told they were waiting on some type of override to become available. Apparently they now have everything required because they called me back and said come on down. Compustar is the brand they install. Oddly enough, these trucks aren't on their compatibility list(autos only as of 3/25.) I have no idea how they made it work but it does, with some built in safeties to ensure the truck isn't in gear when started. Just in time for spring lol I'm sure I'll use it next winter.

I found a compustar dealer near me who do lots of manual transmissions. Got really excited from your post but then they said first tech does not make a system that works with the 4G Tacoma MT yet. They have a beta version in testing to overcome a door lock sync issue. I share your post with the tech (anonymously) and asked how are they doing it. They got back to me and said they are use the corolla GR firmware for a MT on the remote which gets them around the door sync issue. The shop wasn't comfortable doing it to my tacoma as it is a work around and not really meant for the Tacomas. Glad you were able to find someone that does it. They couldn't give me timing on the release for the tacoma testing completion and firmware update but said there was a lot of product interest so expected it within 8 months to a year (as of Feb 2026). The product when released will provide full 2 way function will the full suite of remotes and the app usage as well.

I had a 2019 mt with an aftermarket starter, installed by the same shop. Unlocking the doors after the truck shut itself off(and locked the doors) would negate the remote start functionality. This new starter doesn't care if the doors are locked or not, obviously a safety issue. I never leave my truck unlocked so I have no worries but I'm sure it should not be this way.
It also doesn't give any audible or visual indicators that the truck has started, I have to actually listen for the engine to make sure. Something else that perhaps is not right.

How it should work is you have to set it up every time you exit the vehicle if you plan on remote starting it for your next drive. For vehicles with push to start you have to use the fob to shut it down. It will actually run for a little bit while you get out and it will lock the doors behind you and shut off after 10ish seconds. The parking brake has to be engaged and the shifter in neutral or it won't work. If at any time your doors are unlocked, it shouldn't be able to start because of the possibility that the shifter may have been moved into gear.
It is obviously overriding the clutch to start up and like any Toyota I've seen, it will shut down when you enter the vehicle then you start it up again like normal. You can also adjust the run time before the auto shut off is activated. If you want the defroster to run you have to use the mode switch because the individual switches for front and rear defrosters will not latch but all your other settings will hold upon remote start.
