Removing the MANUAL transmission shift knob?

How is it done? I see videos online everywhere for the automatic but none for the manual.

I'm able to get the shift boot down no problem but I'm afraid to turn the knob counter clockwise more than I am, I'm watching the whole assembly twist and I don't want to muck up lol.

Is there any clips, screws anything? Or do I just have to give it ungodly forces counter clockwise to get it to screw off?

The service manual is definitely not the clearest on this...

I think this means to turn the lock or trim ring (highlighted blue) clockwise and down, then the knob will loosen counterclockwise. Maybe.

Edited the response - I realized that the ring is highlighted blue in step 1, turn the knob in step 2.
