Shark fin antenna relocate to inside dashboard

Hey Doug,

when you took this off did you get a chance to peek inside to see how much height of the antenna is actually used? I’m curious if we could chop it and fill it like some guys were doing on their gen 3’s

I think it is a lot more filled up than Gen 3. My impression was it wasn’t worth shaving off the very top portion that wasn’t filled with electronics.

Joined because of this thread! Any issues with reception so far?

I really want to add an RTT but I have limited space due to underground parking. This would solve it.

It does affect reception. In hindsight I would have tried to find a different FM antenna to attach instead of using the fin as the FM antenna. I still could I guess. Just need to dig it out of the dashboard.

Hmm. That's good to know. I don't really listen to the radio but I don't like the idea of things not working as they should. Likely affects the gps reception too.

I'm surprised nobody has come up with a proper relocation. Not sure what to do now

I don’t see any issues with gps. Also, I believe a better fm antenna could be attached to the connector before stuffing the things into the dashboard. If I remember correctly it was a fairly typical connector at the fin.

After using the AutoHarnessHouse DCM Bypass kit, I can say that the GPS is handled by the DCM. My compass is no longer accurate (and of course the Connected Services GPS navigation will not work).
