To add to the above, the 'zeroth' generation was the 5th generation Toyota pickup, sold under that name.

And for guys like me....I just drive a Toyota Pickup. Mine predates the first Tacoma by 10 years. Almost 300,000 miles on the stock 22RE engine and still going strong. 4WD Xtracb with 5 speed manual transmission.
