THIRD PANEL IN 14" DISPLAY

I know there have been previous discussions about a third panel in the 14" display. I have my display set with the large 2/3 panel of the screen on the right for navigation and the left 1/3 panel of the screen on media, Pandora. I have never been able to split the smaller side panel of the screen into two halves like is shown on the control button. I have Android Auto but have never found how to split the smaller panel into two halves. While I was driving, all of a sudden the three panel display showed up. Messenger popped up above the Pandora panel. I'm not sure how but if anyone knows what happened and how I can program the third panel please let me know. I posted a picture of the display below. Thanks.

To my knowledge, it's automatic and only displays for notifications such as messages, calls, calender events, etc. After a set amount of time, the notification panel will minimize allowing the media panel to fill the entire 1/3 section.

Yes, that was my experience. It vanished after a minute or less.

This is the correct answer. There is no way to force the "third panel" to appear or to make it display anything else.

Alternatively you can swipe it away rather than waiting for it to disappear.

Yeah, it's automatic. The 1/3 panel splits for notifications, but goes right back to being media.
