Somewhat of a caution tale for other forum members. Recently some may recall a forum sponsor @TRUMGETA offering a free giveaway for a few sets of their new running boards. They stated that they had pulled a few sets aside specifically for forum members to try them out.

I went ahead and replied to their thread and pm'd them and was selected. After which, we exchanged a few emails. The result was a bait and switch:

1000003326.webp
1000003328.webp

For those who don't want to read the whole email, the short of it was a fabricated story. They didn't have any set aside, rather instead they wanted the "winners" to pay full price and withhold refund in exchange for Amazon reviews of their product.

Whether they would give that refund for negative reviews, I can't say as I didn't move forward. Said review would however circumvent Amazons process for "sponsored" reviews in exchange for free products.

I did however call them out for it on that thread which has now been deleted. I just wanted to notify other members to proceed with that companies "giveaways" with caution.

I'd advise everybody to head over to the sponsors page and check it out.

Trumgreta, Lexland, Muslogy, Zekzoop, Xipoqix, and TreadAuto - all sponsors.

These "sellers" & *sponsors* are basically all the same thing, cheap Chinese knockoff sellers.

Most of them are a pretty easy tell - Hard to find a contact address (and if it is in the US, it's some nondescript generic looking office building) and a webpage that usually redirects to an Amazon front store (if they do have a webpage, it's some generic designed .net page).

You can search through the forums here and find responses from the sellers and notice the grammar in their responses too. Also posts here from members stating the shipping is from China and the poor quality of products, etc.

Still surprising that people buy this Temu stuff.

You can spot them by the gibberish names as well. They're either made by a generator or purposely nonsensical. And that's because if they choose a name like one of the above there's basically zero chance it conflicts with a trademark so they can get quick access to Amazon Brand Registry. They can also just "burn" the brand if they get too many shitty reviews and start another one selling the same products under a different name. They aren't worried about brand loyalty, they just want to move as much product as possible.

The gibberish names actually have a very specific purpose, and its not for copyright/trademark. Its actually to "fool" Amazon. Amazon has alot of issues with chinese companies flooding their platform with junk products with fake reviews and violating their terms of service. Amazon can and will kick them off the platform and do so in mass quantities. The problem is once they get kicked off the companies come back under a different name and just do it again. Sometimes with multiple brand lines. There have even been instances where companies sell legitimate products then go back and swap out pics/descriptions to keep positive reviews to sell junk. They do it so much and on such a large scale Amazon just can't keep up.

What this company is doing is different. They have a somewhat legitimate name and are sponsoring our forum, and probably others as well. They're actually trying to establish a brand name on the marketplace.

I'm considering contacting Amazon though. They actually have their own program specifically for the purpose of giving out free products in exchange for reviews. Which they do so they can flag those reviews for the public. They're fairly common. I'm pretty sure that this violates their terms of service and could get them kicked out of the marketplace. Just not sure I wanna take it that far.

honestly i don't think we should keep turning a blind eye to this sort of shady amazon review manipulation it's flat-out deceptive.
