Toyota axle supplier Hino closing Arkansas plant, cutting 1,300 jobs
Toyota begins construction of San Antonio axle plant, local president looks to future
The $531 million expansion will add 400 San Antonio jobs — and give San Antonio a foothold in the auto giant's supply chain.
The axle plant will add more than 400 jobs, bringing total employment at the plant to more than 4,000 people.
At 500,000 square feet, the new plant will house five production lines and 200 welding robots to create 18 variations of rear axles.
Toyota plans for axle assemblies to be rolling off the assembly line by late 2026. It plans to make about 500,000 units a year when it’s fully ramped up by the spring of 2027. The bulk of its finished parts — about 60% — will be shipped outside Texas for use in the Tacoma, giving the local plant a new foothold in the Japanese auto giant’s supply chain.
