The most annoying thing in my Tacoma so far? The cupholders for driver/passenger.

Somebody needs to create inserts for those holders and quickly, they're styrofoam killers. They're also murder on any color coated Yeti.

What I need is a back seat cup holder plug. My dog stands on the center console and would love to just cover them up completely so he does have to step in and out of the holes to move around.

Annoying? That I do not have one to be annoyed with yet.

Here is what I came up with as a solution in my truck. It's just a TPU (flexible 3d printed material) insert that holds the tabs in. Now it's not difficult to insert larger stainless steel cups, and doesn't run the risk of destroying a styrofoam cup. Here is a link to the 3d model https://makerworld.com/en/models/480267#profileId-391789. For anyone who doesn't have the capability to print their own, send me a message if you have any interest in purchasing a printed set.

FYI I have had thse installed in my truck for the better part of the month now and haven't had any issues yet.

@Toy-truck here ya go

I don't understand what they were thinking with these cupholders. The tabs that secure a drink in the cupholder pivot in a direction that doesn't allow for them to move properly when trying to get a drink in.
Exactly. WTH? Those things don't get out of the way when you try to put a glass or a water bottle in them. You have to push them out sideways - not downward. Where is the aftermarket replacement??

Edit:: Is it possible those things are upside down? I'm going to look into that tomorrow.

The tabs that secure a drink in the cupholder pivot in a direction that doesn't allow for them to move properly when trying to get a drink in. Included is a picture of the damage they do to a styrofoam cup. I'm left to wonder how many times can I insert and remove the cup before it makes a hole in it and my drink goes everywhere...

I have a couple ideas for a 3D printed mod that will address this issue...

I love almost everything else though :giggle:

Literally the same complaint I’ve had. Spent 20 minutes explaining to my wife about it, I was so annoyed, showing her how they are hinged upside down for no reason. What problem are they solving for anyway? Drinks launching into outer space? Are they preparing for a moon landing???

Anyway, I bought a replacement cup holder unit. It’s going in today. Z-precision, made in the USA and fits my yeti with the handle.

I'm guessing that orientation is because if it was hinged the opposite direction, there's a risk of a partially full cup being pushed out by it if it was light enough. But I've always been annoyed by Tacoma cup holder mechanisms. They just don't make them good for single-hand insertion of a cup. That being said, I've been driving Tacomas for 25+ years so I can't really compare to anything else... they may all be bad.
I love the cupholders in my 2025 Tacoma b/c I'm coming from a 2014 Jeep Wrangler JKU. It had two cup holders in line w/the transmission, one in front of the other. Problem was with the console lid shut you couldn't fit two modern size cups in there.

These cupholders are amazing compared with the cupholders in the 2000 era BMW 5 series.
