Nitto Terra Grappler G3 Tire Upgrade

I had originally purchased The 275/70R18 Yokohama Geolandar A/T4 (first photo) and they felt great both on and off road. They looked good on the truck too, but I coud not get over their road noise for city driving. They had this obnoxious wind howling type of noise and I had them spin out in the rain on acceleration, so that was enough for me.

I ended up swapping them out for the Nitto Terra Grappler G3 in 265/70R18 under Yokohama's 30 day satisfaction guarantee through Discount Tire and immediately got an improvement in both road noise and fuel economy. They ended up being less than 1/2 inch difference in height. I haven't had a chance to test them in inclement weather conditions, but so far I am really happy with them!

Yea I got them right when we got a break in the rain, now have 5 days of sun and have had zero snow or freezing. Odd for sure. I don't really remember seeing the sun for a month or so before this

Here in Southeast Toyota land, a lot of TRDOR hybrids come with those as a port install option.

For $1600. And you don't even get the original tires to sell to offset that.

Dang, well at least they'll last for a while! I think I paid $1300 installed + 870 for the trailhunter wheels up here in WA (got the wheels heavily discounted). Sold the SR5 tires for $300. So still like $1,900 for the setup.

I honestly just looked this up because I hadn't seen it up here in Washington when I was shopping. Crazy! It seems like it can really drive up the price of a vehicle with stuff not everyone wants. Not sure I fully understand, but I hadn't seen it listed before and have purchased a few new vehicles in my life in the PNW.

Got a "new to me" trail hunter and it came with these tires. Man they make a racket at speed and forget MPG's. I'm between Terra and Ridge Grapplers in the same size (265/70R18). I'm more into the overland thing and going the "long way" to the OHV dirt bike trails.

Also want to get rid of the 1.25" spacers. Not in to the poking out look.

Open to guidance.

Yeah, here in SouthEast Toyota distributor area it's ridiculous. Most trucks come with a bunch of superfluous crap that I don't want, and it's rare to find a truck without.

Looking at 2026 OffRoad Hybrids with Premium Upgrade in Georgia, the lowest priced one has $2,414 in port installed stuff. $700 spray on bed liner, $459 rear tow hooks, $350 floor mats, $129 screen protector, and of course $79 for a set of four USB cables - only one of which would be useful., and the rip off ToyoGuard where $800 gets you a couple extra oil changes, tire rotations, and mystery fabric & paint protection (likely nothing more than scotchguard and meguires).

Even more offensive is the part where SET inflates the cost of those options vs what they cost in other regions.

And the cherry on top is these are all on the primary window sticker so they can't be removed. Sure, you might negotiate a price offset, but that's just taking away what you might've negotiated against the MSRP if all that crap wasn't on there.

Yep, oughta be but it isn’t.

In 2016 a local dealer was able to get my truck with nothing other than what I wanted, though I had to wait a few weeks. Others couldn't/wouldn't.

Same dealer claims they can do this again when/if I buy a 4th gen. I’ll see. If not it’s worth a fly-and-drive transaction.

Oh man, that is some serious poke with those spacers! Cool truck though.
We are kind of limited in our choices with the 18 inches wheels, especially if you want an SL tire. I went with the G3 because of both reviews and weight. People seem to love the Falken AT4W, but these are 4lbs lighter. Not sure how much of a difference 4lbs actually makes in fuel economy, but I like them. 3PMSF and 70K mileage warranty.

I found a local dealer in my SoCal area that is discounting 2026 Trailhunter‘s. No Southeast Toyota add on‘s, an $85 doc fee and no other BS. They do install an easily removable dealership license plate frame though.
