I guess I don't understand your question. You change the setting with the up/down button while it's on. What difference does it make what it's set at when it's turned off? It's off. Just reset it when you've hit your cruise speed.

While you're in cruise control, you can adjust the speed with the up/down button. When your not, just hit the on/off button when you get to your desired speed.

Well, you can turn it off and reset it when you reach your desired speed. You use the up/down when it's on, and that changes it.
