Has anyone done the rodent screen protection that Toyota offers? I took my truck in to have some of the recalls done and they said they saw evidence of rodents, nothing crazy, just some foot prints. They asked if me if wanted their rat protection mesh to stop them from getting into the cabin and other areas where they could potentially get in and start chewing wires. It’s $562 dollars. I’m wondering if anyone has had this service from the dealers and if it’s worth it. It just feels like another one of their add-ons that they try to push on me every time I go in.

Never heard of it, but might be worth investing. Rodent damage can get expensive very quickly. I know a former work colleague who took a month vacation after she retired, and when she returned her year-old Camry Hybrid had so much rodent damage to the electrical systems it was totaled.

Rabbits are a problem here in the rural areas of the Sacramento Valley. I have heard of a mesh screen being used over the cabin air vent in the engine bay for smaller rodents, but that wouldn't help, with respect to the engine wiring. How could they effectively screen the underneath of the vehicle or the wiring under the hood?

I don't know, just think it might be worth looking into if he has rodent problems.

Never heard of it. Had a local shop put a partial bar of Irish Spring soap in the air filter box to keep mice from nesting there. Not sure how they'd screen everything, but post pictures if you jump for it.

While visiting a friend, it cost me and the insurance company $1146.00 to replace a rodent damaged wiring harness. It wasn't inside the cab.

I use small containers that spices, bullion cubes etc and put double sided velcro on the bottom to attach in machines and tractors. Drill a few small 5/8" holes in it and put the green blocks of rat poison in them. At least if they are making a nest in the machine they go to the easy food source and it kills them knock on wood but no issues so far.

WTF this is a new one for me too.

Maybe if you have a known rodent problem. Maybe.

But the FIRST answer would be to get the rodents under control. If I had enough mice to worry about the truck, I'd be more worried about my house.
