This must be one of the biggest misconceptions about these trucks.
Your DTE calculation is based off of ~15.5 gallons of fuel & your current MPG reading. If you reference your user manual (shocking I know, why would anyone do that?!) you will see that you have ~2.7 gallons of fuel reserve, i.e...
There are Auto Start/Stop eliminators that you can buy that are wired in to stop it from cutting off. Now sure how they interface with a hybrid though.
Seems like a couple of you need to have your codes pulled and reference the TSB for the transmission failures. Toyota will only replace the trans if you have those codes present.

I still stand by my opinion that the chin is stupid, looks stupid, and is pointless. And if I had one, I would remove it immediately.
HOWEVER, I will say that Toyota is going to charge you $650-$1000 to replace it (76854-AK020).
