Hey everyone. Disappointing post here but bought a brand new 2025 Tacoma TRD OF with 45 miles. Drove it all day Saturday. Sunday went to run some errands and noticed something was off on the trans. Brought it back to the dealership and after their diagnostics they said nothing was wrong and may just need to be driven more so that the engine can learn driving habits. After leaving the lot, not 2 miles down the road check engine light came with a "Drive Start Control Malfunction" message. Right back to the dealership we go. Next day they call me and say the check engine light is indicating problems with the transmission. Advised repair is to replace Torque converter and trans. 232 miles. Service advisor says there's one new transmission in the country and will know more information about a completion date Sat. They will be providing a loaner until its done. Should I go back to the dealership and ask for a different truck? Same make, model? Or do I trust that everything will be good moving forward? It failed so quick it makes me think it may have been a manufacturing issue. Kinda feeling hopeless and not sure route to go.

That's pretty rough, not sure what kind of options you have but I doubt they'd just take the L and give you a whole new truck. I mean, they SHOULD, but will they?

Sorry to hear, fingers crossed for you.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I think waiting to see how long the replacement may take and then looking into lemon law stuff. See if there maybe any compensation there.

There's no way they checked shit. The trans was 2 miles from grenade metal confetti mode and it didn't already throw a code?

Dealers are way too dismissive, it's crazy lol

I'm not going to complain about any noise or squeak or behavior until the truck stops driving and it won't move under it's own power. Seems like that's criteria for dealers giving a shit about you, gotta be on the side of the road.

look up your state's lemon laws. if you meet the repair-attempt or days-with-out threshold, you would initiate the buy back with Toyota directly.

You have a dead truck with almost no miles, and your dealer obviously sucks. Do you really want them doing major surgery on your truck? I know that I wouldn't. If you can get a new truck, that is what I would do. If the repair takes a long time due to lack of a replacement transmission I would lemon law that sucker.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Sorry to hear about this. In reality, the dealer doesn't owe you a thing. Toyota needs to make good on its warranty.

You might take a look at your state's lemon laws. I think most kick in after 30 days.

Tranny swaps aren’t difficult, the problem is waiting for the parts? Early 24 tranny failures, some were getting replacements in about 2 weeks. Hopefully you’ll get it resolved relatively soon!

Check the local law. Here we can return a vehicle within a certain time frame. 3 weeks or 30 days I think. I for sure would be getting my money back if it was here.

Not that I am here to defend Dealerships per se, but I would think this is more of a Toyota problem.

The Dealership basically received a "lemon" and sold it without knowledge that it was a lemon.

If it were me, I would try to get some extra free oil changes or something like that they could throw in for your troubles. I wouldn't be too worried about them replacing the transmission and if anything else comes up, I would guess they would repair that as well.

Best case scenario is that they drive it for another year and other issues come up. The chances of them getting it replaced with a new Truck would be good and they basically would be driving a new vehicle down the road again.

It's like when you get hail on a roof that is 10 years old. You basically hold off on replacing your roof with money out of your pocket for at least another 10 years.

I know that it can be a pain but I would guess the Dealership would make it right if you didn't ask for the Moon.

I have a 2025 hybrid Limited with 5000 kms ((3100 miles)) on it.

On October 31st i pulled out of my garage drove about 2 blocks from my house. Stopped at a 4 way stop. Proceeded to drive and noticed a bit of a rough shift from 1st to 2nd. All of a sudden my dash lit up with 3 error codes....

1)Hybrid system malfunction has been detected
2)Malfunction in the Intelligent Clearance Sonar System has been detected
3)A malfunction in the Drive start Control System has been detected

I drove straight to the dealership. The dash warnings we back to normal and my truck seemed to be driving normally at that point. They told me the soonest I could get it in for them to look at it would be Nov 24th. I guess they weren't too worried about it. I'll keep you posted

Seems like a couple of you need to have your codes pulled and reference the TSB for the transmission failures. Toyota will only replace the trans if you have those codes present.

Edit to add- DO NOT LET THE DEALERSHIP CLEAR YOUR CODES
