While I generally agree that Toyota is being super conservative with their payload values, your TRD OR value above is for the hybrid. The non-hybrid is just 6240lbs from what I've seen on the door stickers thread. So you gain 495lbs on the GVWR which probably just covers the weight of the hybrid...
Sounds like you've got the one issue that has been widely reported:

No, the Trailhunter also can't take the 1709lbs. That was a preliminary figure. It is now 1215 or 1245 per above (depending on bed length). Pro will be 1200.
It indicates the load capacities for the hybrid models:
1200lbs for short bed non-Trailhunter
1215lbs for short bed Trailhunter
1245lbs for long bed.
That's a bit disappointing. I think a lot of us were hoping for a bit higher capacity.
It also confirms that if you're using the AC inverter...
I'm a bit surprised they can't bypass the issue, locking the shutters in the open position, and let the owners keep their vehicles until the parts arrive.
I do care, but the purchase price is only one piece. Look at the resale of a Ranger vs a Tacoma. Is the Ranger really cheaper? I considered a Frontier as well, since they're significantly cheaper to buy... but their value drops like a rock.
I'd also say the claim that the new Tundra has "tons...
This video review might put your mind at ease. 5000lb oversize camper with no weight distribution hitch and he has no issues.
Also worth noting that 80% rule may be outdated. Since 2012, manufacturers have to follow an SAE standard for tow ratings that ensures that even if the trailer brakes...
Early info from Toyota suggested 6000lbs towing for the hybrids (which aligns with the Land Cruiser). Not sure why it's lower than the gas, but my guess is it's a transmission cooling limitation, given the increased torque applied to it from the hybrid.
So that's an extra 500lbs on the GVWR, but I expect nearly all of that will be eaten up by the hybrid components and bigger wheel/tire package. Was hoping for more payload.
I feel your pain. Waiting on TRD OR hybrid, but any time I see a Tundra Limited OR, it makes me question my choice. I don't really want a full size, but the price is so similar..
The new Raptor Ranger is over $80kCAD. I would expect the TRD Pro to be in the same range. Hybrid Off Road will be around $70kCAD, so Pro and Trailhunter will be significantly more.
I am getting the Softex as well - the one I test drove was SUPER comfortable. One thing to be aware of is that the seat ventilation is louder than I expected.
Surprised about the seats. When I test drove a Sport Premium, I was even more comfortable than in my Lexus. Absolutely brilliant. But I could imagine it would be less comfortable if I was proportioned differently.
In my wife's BMW, I tried my digital key (Android) once. Never again. Worked ok for my wife's iPhone though. The Car Play and Android Auto issues seem common to most new cars.
Are your kids 5'10"? ;)
It is pretty tight. I'm 5'9" and was pretty comfortable sitting behind my preferred driver's seat position. But my 9yo daughter was uncomfortable, because there isn't a lot of foot room and the seats are too deep for her knees to bend at 90 degrees, so it's not ideal. She...
Unfortunately, the manual says Toyota doesn't recommend the use of a third party trailer brake controller with this truck. That's quite frustrating, as other OEMs that offer factory-installed brake controllers also have provisions for aftermarket controllers.
