In theory, the Ranger SHOULD have good reliability, given that they've been making it in other markets for a couple years already. That said, it's Ford, so you can expect software issues, and they probably messed something up on the engine for North America..
I get that Toyota is still gunshy when it comes to floor mats and accelerator pedals, but the coverage with that all weather mat is laughable. Hopefully Husky, WeatherTech, and TuxMat offer good options.
The door stickers seem artificially low for some reason. They certainly don't match GVWR - Curb weight. The hybrid TRD OR hybrid has like a 1685lb payload according to the website, and that aligns better with the GVWR - Curb. But I won't be surprised if it arrives with a 1200-1300lb payload...
I did notice minor lag on the new Tacoma from a stop, similar to most 4cyl turbos, but it's very brief in comparison to others. I'm getting the hybrid because I will be doing mostly City or offroad driving, so it will save a bit of gas on my commute and have plenty of torque when I want it, but...
In Alberta, trailer brakes are legally required if you are towing more than 50% of your vehicle's weight (Vehicle Equipment Regulation), so you're going to need trailer brakes to tow a cord of wood.
More specifically, the maximum weight (GVWR) of the trailer cannot exceed more than 50% of your...
Yeah that could definitely be a limitation with the Curt Echo, but the Tekonsha Prodigy doesn't require your phone to function; it has its own dedicated remote.
If he's getting a Limited, it should have the OEM brake controller. For your TRD sport, have you looked at the wireless brake controller options like the Curt Echo? Not ideal, but better than nothing. TFL used a trailer-mounted brake controller for their tow testing with a base TRD OR.
Edit: TFL...
Hybrid configurator is finally on Toyota Canada website! As expected, there's not so much configuration; more like pick your trim and colour and you're done lol
Watch the videos of the off road course at the media first drive. The hybrids can effectively idle through the whole thing. The result is exceptionally well-controlled navigation through obstacles. This particular video was probably the most downbeat video I've seen, and not really all that...
Might not be able to talk you out of it, but where did that $7000 figure come from? I am getting a TRD OR iForce MAX and the Canadian pricing is better than I expected - $64k compared to $61k for the gas model, and for that $3000 increase you get the hybrid powertrain AND the sway bar disconnect...
Keep in mind the BFGs that come on the Tacoma aren't exactly the same spec as the retail Trail Terrain. The retail TT is 3PMS snow rated and the OE TT is not. I suspect it has fewer plies compared to the retail as well, but not sure if that has been confirmed.
The max payloads listed in the specs are ALL higher than what TFL found on the door sticker on the Trailhunter (1245lbs). I don't know why the door stickers are all lower ratings than the actual GVWR - Tare.
