For those getting mileage under what you expected - are you running tires that weigh 60 or more pounds - this is a big factor and took my mileage down from 20+ to 18+
Also guys - the TH is 5400 pounds before you even sit inside of it or do a single mod, and has almost 16” of running clearance in many spots with no air dam. If you’re getting over 18 I think it’s remarkable and impressive. I know guys with Ranger raptors getting 11.
6600 miles. Aside from being in the transmission TSB and fearing some future issue, zero actual problems and a delightful truck. Will buy again when the time comes.
I assume your 285/70/17 are the standard loads at 53 pounds? I get 18.5 very consistently with the Falken 275/70/18 at 60.3 pounds. Before the Falkens I got 20mpg. But no other mods aside from the diamondback, and definitely no rack to catch the extra wind.
I do use 91 octane.
Yes on TH...
I’ve got the diamond back. I plan to buy an up top rack that attaches to the cleat bolts from that cool Last Line of Defense dude. I want to throw on some recovery stuff, Jerry cans etc.

Yeah I saw that one and the grabber - but trying to stay away from SL so that my truck has some legitimate off-road ability and puncture resistance. I think the E load does impact the ride for sure but if the tire is light enough the suspension can absorb the additional sidewall stiffness...
I’m spending 5% of my time off road. I’m a shameless show pony ?
EXP. And yeah I think the 10.3 pound delta is what I need to make a real difference. I must be way more ride sensitive than 99% of folks here. Or maybe I’m one of the few where this is my only vehicle so it kinda needs to do...
Hey guys - I’m getting rid of my Falkens. At 60.3 pounds a tire they are too heavy. Combined with the E rating they are too harsh over bumps and braking is longer. I get that they are amazing tires and I’m NOT knocking them. I am not. But I want lower mass. I am also wedded to 275/70/18...
Yeah. It’s not driver error. When you slow to a stop there is a tiny surge or jolt in power above and beyond normal driveline idle forward motion. To me it feels like a regen glitch but I cannot be sure. I also have random hard 1 to 2 gear shifts like I did today. My 10 year old noticed it...
I took your advice, got a caliper.. and Holy crap - it's closer to 8-9mm! May be a consequence of my 60 pound Falkens. Not sure if I should be worried. But t this rate I'll have to replace them in a year. I'm used to going 60K miles on brake pads.
Thanks!! I went by DT to look at them. They look really decent. I'm between these and the MT Baja Legend EXP to replace my 60 pound Falkens which are just too heavy for me. The MT Baja Legend EXPs are 55 pounds and the Firestones are 50.
My guess is that the ride comfort on the Firestones...
How do these tires do over bad roads? Generally comfortable? Are you able to measure diameter as mounted on your truck? Do you know the tread width? How’s wet traction?
