This is a bit of an oversimplification, but your transmission is a mechanical device with splines (teeth) that connects your wheels to your engine. Sometimes when stopped the teeth just don’t line up perfectly for the shifter to engage (mesh) them smoothly. One set of teeth has to move slightly...
This is a carry over habit from when I drove non-synchronized 18 speeds, but when coming to a stop right before the wheels stopped turning I’d slide it into 1st gear in preparation for start. I bet you never have an issue again if you do this.
Fast HD Recon 17x8, +20 offset, 95.1 hub, weighing in at 24.8 lbs. Wrapped them in Toyo Open Country R/T tires 285/70r17. No rub at full steering lock or ripping through a very bumpy field by my place. Very happy with the setup so far and looking forward to getting it dirty on some real trails...

Does anyone know if there’s any type of of conditioner additive or break-in fluid added to the oil from the factory that might be a detriment if oil is changed too early for the first change? I intend to change oil every 10,000km which is 6000 mi.
No update yet. My wheels just arrived today, but am working another week before I can get the tires put on. My thought was to use the 275 as a spare with 285s the rest of the way around. However it’s looking like 275/70r17s are harder to come by, so I might end up with an E load 265/70r17...
I ordered no options. I wanted a TRD off-road as cheap as I could get.
Maybe I got lucky. But I don’t think you can cherry pick features you want like you can with other manufacturers. You are stuck with or without the options that a particular upgrade package comes with.
I’ve been trying to figure that out myself too and I have a new OR.
I’m measuring 1.75” of rake on my drivers side and 2.0” of rake on the passenger side (perhaps due to full fuel tank?). According to Westcott, with his 2.5/0.75 lift on an SR5 it still has 1.0” of rake. That would be 2.75” of...
Always loved the look of the 3rd gen, I think the 4th looks great too. Both great trucks and a natural evolution I think. 4th gen looks a touch bigger.
I was just looking at it myself for my Off Road model. Very interested in the 1” rear and 1.25” front kit to keep most of the stock rake as I’ll likely have stuff in the bed on a semi regular basis. I really like how you can buy the different components separately to tailor the lift I want.
I thought I saw somewhere that the new Tacoma TRD lift kit is going to have longer CV axles like the Tundra. We already know about the new UCAs. I also wouldn’t be surprised if there was a diff drop in there as well. I bet you it’s close in price to the Tundra kit, which is not cheap at all.
