Starting to receive parts for the suspension upgrades!

Ordered:
Icon UCAs- Arrived
Icon triple rate rear springs- Arrived
Kind front struts
King rear shocks

All ordered from Accutune last Wednesday.

Springs and UCAs arrived today via fedex. I’m assuming the shocks will take longer since they’re being tuned per my specs.

I am not an over lander so this truck will not see a ton of extra weight added but I occasionally tow my small camper and trailer loaded with motorcycles and dirt bikes. Also, I’m definitely not pleased with the front suspension, I have bottomed out several times just coming off curbs and small dips on the trails. It’s a harsh hit that really makes me question how long the stock struts will hold up.
The stock shocks just don’t feel right after driving the Canyon AT4X so I’m doing something about it.

I chose the Icon tubular UCA because I can’t imagine a situation where I’ll need forged parts and honestly couldn’t justify the price of the other control arms that have the same style joint and bushings. Tubular just looks cool, too. I’ll be keeping an eye out for lower control arms.

How do you guys feel about the front diff drop? I doubt I’ll need it for the modest 1.5” I plan to lift. I like a little rake because I do still use my truck to tow and haul.

My front lift is 1.5, no diff drop. CV angle looks good

Bit of an update…

Installed the Icon Triple rate springs and lost 3/4 of an inch in height…

Scratched my head for a bit and then realized just how stupid I was.

These springs are for a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off-road WITHOUT the iForce max option. Icon’s website doesn’t list an iForce option so it’s totally my fault. I completely glossed over the fact that the hybrid version is over 400 lbs heavier.

luckily it’s an easy swap. If anyone is interested in some new Icon triple rate performance springs, hit me up and I’ll make you a great deal!

That sucks! Maybe the Tundra springs will work?

What’s the lift of the Icon springs 1/2 inch?

I considered Tundra springs but my goal was a softer ride off-road. I think these icon springs would be perfect for a non-hybrid truck.

Finished installing the suspension components last week. What a difference!!! No more bottoming out and rides so much better!

I did the alignment myself in my garage with an angle finger and tape measure after installing everything and drove it for about a week while waiting on my appointment with the Toyota dealership.

The dealership checked the alignment and said it was spot on! No adjustment needed, so now I feel confident in doing my own alignments on this truck from now on. Which is good because I have more plans for the suspension down the road.

I’d really like to install a roof rack but I haven’t found one I like, yet.

Hey @The T Rav , I am currently looking at new suspension options for my TRD OR Hybrid as well and the extra weight has had me scratching my head as well. Nearly all manufacturers specify that their suspension components are for the non hybrid models. What springs did you end up going with in the rear?

I see a lot of people going with the kings suspension for front coilovers and rear shocks, and they look absolutely fantastic. its just a little too expensive for me. I am currently looking at the Eibach Pro-Truck-Coilover 2.0 for the front to get the truck level, but was thinking of just leaving the rear stock. Do you think this set up would be ok? I wont be towing anything heavy, i have a jetski but its tongue weight is small and i only tow it twice a year in the summer. I'm more just curious to see if you think its necessary to upgrade the rear since you mentioned the front specifically being an issue for bottoming out. Also, in your pictures with the front coilover on the table i can see the internal bumpstop but installed i cant, did you take it out or is it just hiding behind the bottom spring bracket.

I've scoured the internet for answers to the problem of suspension upgrade for the hybrid and found that there really isnt a good answer. I confirmed from Toyota that the front suspension components are in fact different between the hybrid and non-hybrid OR's. So for anyone that wants suspension specifically tuned for the Hybrid OR their only option is staying stock and either adding a top hat spacer or a preload collar like the popular Westcott kit.

Every single aftermarket coilover kit is tuned for the non-hybrid models, which isnt necessarily bad, because you can just pick up the slack with the preload adjustment. However, since a lot of the kits say "between 0-2.5" lift" that tells me that the coilover assembly has the same dimensions as the stock one and you adjust height with the preload collar... to me that just sounds the same as adding the Westcott collar to the stock strut, albeit the aftermarket strut will have better made components (in most cases).

In any case, your setup looks amazing and i hope i can get something close to that! I am just beating myself up over trying to make the right decisions for my truck without breaking the bank.

I am still running the stock rear springs since my goal was better ride quality and to level the truck. I have not had a need to replace the rear springs because they're already a higher spring rate than non-hybrid models. Even with the new Diamond Back HD bed cover (roughly 200#) installed and the bed loaded with my standard tool set, I haven't had an issue with the rear sagging too much. I've even towed my 21' camper with no issue.

My advice: stay with the stock rear springs until someone releases a dedicated Hybrid rear spring set. That's my plan anyway. If you're goal is to lift, just use spring spacers.

Also, this is the main reason I went with a King setup through Accutune. The kings were more "tunable" and Accutune custom-tunes the shocks and selects the appropriate coil over spring specifically for the weight they'll be supporting. I had the same issue with other brands and I did not want to have to adjust the preload to compensate for the weight because it really messes up the ride quality and limits UP travel. I think ICON might provide appropriate coil over spring rates but I don't think they tune their shocks accordingly. Sorry I can't be more help, I was in your exact same situation and got so fed up that I just bit the bullet. I do not regret it at all, the truck rides better than stock despite having heavier 33" tires on 17" wheels. I have almost 20k miles on this setup so far ( I travel the country for work) and I have had no complaints.

Man the hybrid tacos may be the most un-modifiable models in the entire lineup... Same with me i am getting so fed up with trying to find parts. I was looking at the ICONs as well, but yeah the lack of tuning for hybrid specific models makes me a little worried. I reason that a hybrid is probably similar to a non-hybrid with a big steel bumper and winch hanging off the front.

And the WHEELS. Why are 18" wheels so rare. and now the bore has changed to 95.1mm, finding a wheel that is 18" 6x139.7 and a 95.1mm bore is impossible. i get you can use hub rings to use on larger bore wheels but still. I'm almost regretting not going with just the standard OR lol

But thank you! You've actually helped me a lot, just knowing that I'm not alone and not insane, although it is driving me crazy

Hey @The T Rav , sorry one more question. Were new UCA's necessary with this kit? the install instructions on kings site show stock UCA's but just curious if you knew if there would be any conflict between the springs and stock UCA's at full droop.
