Same issue - the dealership calls it "The Clown Truck" as they tapped the brakes and it bouces into the service area. Toyota approved a single shock for replacement because "the reservoir blew off", but not the other (drivers approved, passenger awaits).

Has anyone tried the Bilstein B8 6100 — part number 24-333269 ? Slightly bigger diameter with now external bits....

yup, same failure i had, mind you i have nothing in the bed, its a commuter so tank stays between half and full every day, thats it.

toyota extended warranty only replaced that 1 shock for me. bet the other one is gonna go soon. the new shock has a slightly different design with the way the reservoir is mounted
update: truck has been at the dealership for six weeks. We opened a case with Toyota and the expected timeline for the rear shocks is late September.

Is that worth with ? You can order them for $70 per side and put them on in 10 min without even lifting the truck.

I dunno. Wouldn’t there still be a wait for the part whether the dealer ordered it, or I did? Supposedly, the part is updated to correct the issue. I have a couple more weeks of patience in me before I put on some aftermarket shocks.

I'm not sure, but this price check is through Serra Toyota. Could call and ask how fast they would ship. Or you could put something else on the truck that won't fall apart like that.
Sometimes some of these smaller things just aren't worth the dealer/warranty hassle man. That's a long wait just to put the same shock back on the truck.

Yeah I agree. Dealership claims Toyota will reimburse me for my monthly payments if I am persistent enough. We shall see if that is true.
Either way I’m going to upgrade to something better if there is no resolution soon, and keep the oem parts for backup. Gotta get the rig back on the trails!

Well that's nice at least ! I hope they do that for you. But yea man, those shocks are so cheap when Toyota is having a sale that it just makes more sense to do it yourself and get back on the road rather than be without your truck.

I have the front and rears. I love them. They add tons of control on the street and dirt. I can haul ass on mountain logging roads. Not what I call plush, and can be a little rough on stutter bumps.. not jarring, but firm. I love hitting g-outs hard that would have totally crushed the stock TRD shocks. The 5100s on my 2nd gen were great for the price, so either would be good. My shocks did seem to need a hundred miles or so to smooth out btw. WAY better than the stock TRD Bilsteins. I'm running them on the first clip with stock rear springs.
