I have about 13,000km on my truck, and recently I can smell a burning smell for about 30 seconds after 30min drives or so on the highway when I stop. I have found I can only smell it in the cabin. I can't seem to locate where the smell is coming from, and I would bring it in but I feel like I'll pay for them to look and they'll say they can't replicate it. To give backstory, I had it undercoated about a month and a half ago, it smelled for a bit after but started to go away. I also got new tires, same size just AT4's but it's not the break as far as I can tell because the rims are not hot after, I tried the touch test. Can anyone give advice on what is may be or where to look, I'm lost. As well, it's a manual.

I also experienced that burning smell in my manual trd sport. I was letting a friend drive it who was shit with the clutch. I chalked it up to him riding the clutch. I haven’t smelled it since

I know it's not the clutch because the clutch has a different smell if I ride it. The clutch on this this smells if you ride it for any amount of time haha

I have a similar problem. Started last December, but I ky after a minimum of 30 mins of driving. Once I slow down, the smell catches up to the truck. Toyota said the the h vac is all plastic, the glue takes 15,000 kms for it to go away. I'm almost at 15,000km, if I drive on the highway, it still burns/smells bad. I made my 3rd appointment and if not gone, I guess I will contact Toyota. I'm losing faith in Toyota

I have this too... I first noticed this winter especially on cold days my first acceleration it would smell bad... I've had the truck almost a year at 8,000 miles.... Now I will only get it going up large grades... Since the weather has warmed a little

I'm currently near 17,000kms in. I just reinstalled my summer tires. I got the smell again. Also my winter tire, front driver side is worn uneven. I also have a slight vibration. Something is making the truck go out of balance. My truck is currently in again. They are keeping the truck for so many days so they can get the smell. Last time they only driven it a few kms down the highway. I told them, you need to go further than that, before you get that smell. However, the vibration starts to be noticable when u get close to the speed of 50 km h. When quickly accelerating when going into a highway as well. They seem to not be able to replicate it but Im starting to believe they can, they just don't want to bother with it.

I'm at 8,000 miles... I've done 1 tire rotation and my front drivers side tire is wearing different from the other..
Definitely strange... As for the smell I usually only get it on very cold mornings or at highway speeds going up hill..
Not all the time but definitely noticeable....

Did you guys ever find out what this was? I started getting this smell last year also and has been lingering off and on ever since. Smells like its coming from the passenger side and its most noticeable by the cowling vents.

Nope, I did find I smell it less in the summer, but more in the winter, so maybe something to do with the heater but I still don't know

Jesus fuck I don't want to hear this! I had a WRX that smelled like burning and whatever it was made me dizzy, of course Subaru wouldn't acknowledge it. My current Jeep did it for a bit then whatever it was burned off, I really don't need another stink box that is melting plastic and passing airborne chemicals into the vehicle..... This makes me want to cancel my order.

Edit to add my other brand vehicles that did this only did it with certain vents with heater on. Start sniffing the vents to figure out which one it is... brutal.

Does it smell like melting plastic/chemicals for you all? Brake, oil etc are pretty obvious.

yeah i would have to agree its been more noticeable in the winter. Wish I could figure out what it is but at least I don't smell inside the cab as long as i keep the recirculation on.

My stink boxes where the same, on recirculation no smell. The clearly indicates a problem. In winter climates this creates a safety hazard as the windows don't defrost well on recirculation.

It's not super noticeable or anything, and I don't smell it all the time, idk it's strange hah. Still very happy with my truck

I get nasty allergies to some odd unnatural chemical smells. When we're getting odours we're inhaling VOC's that may or may not be bad for our health.

With my WRX I had to trade it in as I couldn't defrost anymore. The issue appeared at about 15000km, I drove it from Cape Breton to Ontario and it didn't improve over that long trip, about a month later I'd lost my patience. I'd understand and be ok with it if it was something that most owners experienced for a brief period during the break in period. With the current Jeep that only has 6500km on it I was getting odour from one vent, that lasted less than a week and has been good since.

This makes me very concerned about my Tacoma order, I can't have another vehicle that I need to get rid of and lose money.
