Why not? Does this key behave differently than other Toyota keys? (Not trying to be snarky, I honestly don't know.)You also can't use a lockbox because of the proximity sensors.
I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for the tip! It also looks like it will come with a valet key, which should be safe to get wet so I guess my problem is solved. Why not? Does this key behave differently than other Toyota keys? (Not trying to be snarky, I honestly don't know.)
On my GR Corolla I can disable automatic unlocking when I open the door with key in pocket. Easy: Just press and hold the lock button, press the unlock button twice while lock button still held. Watch for four (?) flashes on the small LED on the key, done.
Yeah, I happened to read that in my Corolla manual and was really surprised and impressed. Seems like a great trick to know, so I tried it and it worked great. I think this should be more widely known.I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for the tip! Great info! Thank you. It looks like they also have small Faraday boxes on Amazon that you can just throw all your keys into at night.Yeah, I happened to read that in my Corolla manual and was really surprised and impressed. That caught my eye because I have read that very sophisticated thieves can use scanning equipment to pick up the signals these keys broadcast, then use that to spoof the key and easily steal your car. That requires that they get close enough to pick up the signal from the key and have physical access to your car, of course.
In order to prevent that, you can buy Faraday pouches that block the key's signals. Just search for "faraday pouch for key fob" or similar, read for yourself. I have pouches for my vehicles with such keys. But if you're traveling and don't have that pouch with you, might be a good idea to turn "off" the key at night, same result as using the Faraday pouch.
If someone has a Tacoma already, please try this and let us know!
Was the card key a part of a package? My dealer wasn't aware that it was an option. Here is the new card key for the 2024 Tacoma, it's very easy to open and there is an easily replaceable battery in there along with a hard key that is keyed on one side only. You will need to press the small circular button to remove the key and pinch the end to slide of the battery cover.

Not sure, I did see a video of an SR and I believe it had it too. It fits great on a wallet, not sure how durable it will be if you sit on your wallet and it bends. Was the card key a part of a package? My dealer wasn't aware that it was an option.
