I just realized that the built in compass is about 60 degrees off!
I thought I was driving North, but it turns out I was actually driving west... That explains why I never hit the highway that was just a few miles north of me!
Has anyone seen a way to calibrate? Or how does it detect direction? The compass is not stuck; it is just always off by about 60 degrees.
If it uses cellular data to determine direction, then I'm screwed. I disabled the DCM (i.e. cellular data). But I left the GPS antenna connected. I thought I already proved that Android Auto is using the GPS antenna, so a GPS based compass would still work.
Just to be sure it is actually the compass, I checked the declination. In my area it is almost exactly 0 degrees. And for fun I checked the declination at the Toyota factory in Mexico, and they are at 4 degrees. So it isn't like they caused an error by compensating for their declination..
