Crooked bed

Not really a problem, and it's pretty common on Tacomas of all years but my bed is definitely crooked :cwl:

On passenger I've got some serious poke and driver I've got almost full tuck.

Took me about 8000 miles to notice LOL

It's like a good half inch further out driver side :cwl:

Not really an issue because the truck goes straight of course (alignment came back perfect), but it is rather funny. I'll let the service writer know next oil change and we'll see what they can do.

I'm sure loosening the bed up on the mounts then smacking it over with percussive maintenance techniques, and tightening is probably enough.

I'll take this over some of the other issues you guys have been having tbh :giggle:

FYI or FWIW. The dealer where I got mine and body shop where we go for service both said that can't be fixed. The dealer we go to for service has new ownership even though the old owners achieved the "president's award".

Yesterday getting the brake line recall and ADAS reprogramming they charged .8 hour to Toyota and straightened it perfectly to the cab. Now tailgate gap is less than perfect but I'll take it.

This matter has been a many pickup trucks issue I've known for 45 years of owning them which is why I didn't let it bother me too much but in winter road dirt it would make one side of the white paint bed have a stripe of dirt.

Yeah even prior to getting my truck I knew about this, having had a old Toyota Pickup and friends with Tacomas.

My local dealer didn't want to touch it until the next service. Really had to convince the service writer that it was off lol the other trucks on the service lot had overfenders which definitely hid the issue more.

I guess with the SR/SR5 and the TRD OR wheels the offset should make the rear end basically flush like the front. So any side to side mis alignment will be really obvious.

It'll go back in for the 10k service soon I'll try to convince them to straighten it because the passenger side is going to get assaulted by dirt etc with the extra offset.

I can't say why they addressed it this time. The dude was asking all manner of questions about anything possibly not right while they had it for a day to do the recalls. I said it is annoying and visible in winter road dirt but kind of no biggie too. He said he would not like it. I see .8 hours labor charged to Toyota warranty for the fix.

I will catch a lot of griping here about dealers but they did a good job. The paperwork shows a multi-point inspection, tire pressure checked and adjusted correctly, washer fluid was topped, and for the two recalls they charged or noted labor for inspection and road test.

Some complaints make sense just because these are high sales volume vehicles. There are probably 1/2 million or more 4th gen out there now. From that some production and dealer issues have to be out there.

Yeah SF Toyota has been fine to me. I do understand there's probably a lot of variation in dealer quality though. I did call Daly City though to see if they can check it out today, and they said yes so we'll see.

And yeah I mean it's a truck, but if they can straighten it out it would be nice. It looks a little goofy going down the road from freeway following distance, which is how I noticed (following my gf driving the truck in my other car).

They've got maybe 15s on the assembly line to strap the bed down to the frame, there's no way they're using anything more than the ol Eyecrometer 1.0

I will update this thread and see what they say. They're going to make a case with Toyota and try to get this done via warranty.

They also ran the Carfax and of course there's no accidents or issues.

The difference in wheel poke may have little to do with the bed alignment, and could be mostly due to the rear suspension having a panhard bar.

Is your truck's rear suspension lifted at all?

I'm pretty sure the leaf spring trucks do not have panhard bars and no lift here. Truck is bone stock aside from CBI plates and the Diode Dynamic light pod setup on the bumper.

Yeah, that's most likely just the bed. It would be worth confirming that your axle is centered under the frame as well, just to rule that out.

It's all good, it seems like 4x4 SRs that aren't owned by some municipal local government are a rarity :cwl: (which is funny because the city here for some reason has 4x4 SR5s instead of the 2WD SRs they probably need, got upsold I guess).

Yeah they said they're gonna measure everything. I sent them my latest alignment chart which came back perfect, truck goes straight as an arrow so if the axle had any real weirdness it would be very obvious when driving.

Pretty confident it's just the bed, we'll see. I'm interested to see if Toyota just responds "It's all in spec" or if they'll actually try to loosen the bed and wack it over. 1/2" - 12mm is kinda crazy spec though, it's not a Tesla :giggle:
