Wife's 2026 Grand Hilander battery has been going dead so I was looking for a parasitic draw and found this tracker/telemetric dealer installed device. We purchased vehicles at the same time from same dealer so now I gotta go find the one on my 2026 Tacoma

Found the 2d one on the Tacoma, dirty pool by the dealerships. At least they made it easy, hardwired to the 12v battery.

Now do the DCM

I've read the thread on that awhile back, seems like there was unanswered questions, Ill have to revisit it. I did contact Toyota and tell them to disable all telemetrics.

Using a harness disables it without any negative issues.

Have you tried it? I’ve been looking into this and it wasn’t clear what the aftermath looked like.

Did you raise the issue with the dealer? Interested to hear what their justification is for installing this tracker on your vehicles.

Mine has one but it is a LoJack and it was installed with my consent and disclosed in my financial paperwork during my purchase. Now dealerships do install trackers in their vehicles at their lots to guard against financial loses in cases of theft, so I don't know which is your case, but I would think that they would remove them when they sell those vehicles unless they still have a vested interest in that vehicle after they sell them and then it becomes a legal issue.

LoJack from a dealer is just padding for their bottom line (as is any extra addons). Trackers like the one OP has is generally for inventory while on the lot, and like you said for financial reasons.

They don't remove them from either laziness, ignorance, or just to have the ability to track it down on their side.

Like I've mentioned above, the only "true" way to disable the GPS location of the truck is to disable the DCM (provided you don't have one of these cheap trackers as well).

Just for clarity, you can remove this tracker without issues correct?

I did, no issues. It was only wired to battery and not wired into truck electronics so easey peasey.

Are you still able to have a profile saved locally on the truck? When I opted out it would not allow for a profile.

I have never had a profile as I've been "opted out" of Connected Services since day one, so I can't say with 100% certainty, but I would highly doubt it.

You may be able to setup the profile while the connected services are active, and then disable the DCM via the harness and it may stick as a permanent profile. Not really sure. The harness essentially emulates the signal back to the ECU that that the DCM is out of cellular range, so that it doesn't report any CELs (and doesn't disable right speaker and mic, like just unplugging it does).
