I wanted to post this because I’m trying to determine whether anyone else has experienced the same digital rearview mirror/turn-signal graphic issue on a 4th-gen Tacoma and, more importantly, whether anyone has gotten Toyota to identify an actual cause or permanent fix. Because the issue is intermittent and happens randomly, I’ve had to set up a GoPro to record the digital rearview camera every time I drive so I can document the graphic when it flashes.
I have a 2026 Tacoma TRD Pro Hybrid, and this has turned into a pretty drawn-out dealership experience.
My first visit was in July 2026, when the truck had approximately 2,300 miles. I brought it in for both an alignment concern and the intermittent graphic appearing in the digital rearview mirror. I was able to show the dealership roughly 15 videos documenting the issue.
Unfortunately, no technician actually inspected the mirror issue that day because they were tied up with training. Instead, the service advisors essentially Googled the issue and initially tried to tell me the graphic was normal. I pulled up the owner’s manual and showed them that Toyota specifically identifies the graphic as indicating a malfunction. After that, they agreed to let me bring the truck back the following day so a technician could inspect it. At least they were able to complete the alignment under warranty during that first visit.
I brought the truck back the next day, and a technician was able to look into the issue. The dealership opened a case with Toyota, and Toyota recommended that I remove my hardwired dashcam. The dashcam was connected to the OEM dashcam wiring harness located above the overhead panel that houses the lights and glasses holder.
Of course, removing the dashcam did not resolve the issue, and the graphic continued to appear. About two weeks later, I returned again. By that point, I had approximately 21 videos documenting the problem. This visit became much more involved. I dropped the truck off on August 6 and didn’t get it back until August 22.
This time, the technician was able to reproduce the problem consistently. They found that they didn’t need to drive around randomly waiting for it to happen. They could leave the truck running and repeatedly cycle the turn signal until the graphic appeared. Sometimes it took around 50 cycles, while other times it took closer to 200, but they were able to reproduce it.
They also tested a brand-new TRD Pro on the dealer lot with only 11 miles, and that truck eventually displayed the exact same graphic. That helped rule out the possibility that the issue was caused by something I had done to my truck.
The dealership still investigated whether my aftermarket rear lighting could be contributing to the problem. I have additional bumper lighting, including halo taillights, reverse lights, and lights connected through Aux 3. Those components were tested and ultimately ruled out as the cause.
The dealership continued communicating with Toyota corporate and technical support, and supposedly with a field representative as well. They replaced several components, including the mirror and the turn-signal stalk, but the issue remained. It was then determined that the camera itself might be faulty, so the camera was replaced.
I presume the graphic did not reappear during their testing after the camera replacement, so they returned the truck to me. Unfortunately, the issue has not been resolved. Since picking it up, the graphic has already returned multiple times.
To make matters worse, the dealership failed to reattach the third center brake light after replacing the camera and reinstalled the steering wheel crooked after replacing the turn-signal stalk. Because I picked up the truck on a Saturday evening, approximately 30 minutes before closing, I didn’t notice either issue until later that night. I returned the following Monday, and both issues have since been corrected.
Except for the graphic, of course. Lol.
So at this point, I’m looking for a few things from anyone who has encountered this:
I’m not trying to bash the dealership. There have honestly been both good and bad parts of the experience. I realize the technicians can only do so much, and that the ultimate solution may have to come from Toyota’s engineers.
The fact that they reproduced the same issue on a brand-new 11-mile TRD Pro is what really has my attention. It makes me wonder whether this is a broader hardware or software issue that Toyota simply hasn’t identified yet. I’ve also seen other people comment that they’ve experienced the same thing when I asked about it in a few Facebook groups.
I also realize this is not a major issue and is probably the definition of a “first-world problem.” However, I previously owned a 2020 RAV4 Limited and a 2023 RAV4 XSE, both of which had the exact same type of digital rearview mirror, and I never experienced this problem with either vehicle.
At this point, I’m mainly trying to understand how to bring this to Toyota’s attention so they recognize that this malfunction needs to be addressed.
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced the same issue or knows the best way to escalate it with Toyota.

So at this point, I’m looking for a few things from anyone who has encountered this:
- Has anyone else with a 2024–2026 Tacoma, especially a TRD Pro, seen this graphic appear intermittently?
- Has your dealer been able to reproduce it?
- Has Toyota identified the actual cause?
- Was there a specific part replacement, software update, wiring repair, TSB, or other fix that permanently resolved it?
- Has anyone escalated something similar beyond the dealership to Toyota, and if so, what was the most effective route? Toyota Brand Engagement, a regional or factory representative, field technical specialist, case manager, etc.?
- At what point does Toyota typically send someone above the dealership level to physically inspect the vehicle?
