How well does lighting mounted behind the grill work?

I've seen a lot of companies come out with behind the grill lighting and I can't tell if that would be a great solution or a waste of money due to light being blocked by the light's location and trying to escape the depth and the pattern of the grill.

Anyone ran one and have experience?

Personal opinion from my personal experiences and preferences. I put a good light bar behind the grill of my '19 TRD. It lit up the area a lot better out to the range of the bright lights and a little beyond. It was wired to my high beam circuit so it didn't unintentionally blind any oncoming traffic when on the road. Over cab light bars look cool, but light up the hood and blind ya in snow, rain, dust where this location was better in that regard. Took a little more work to clean off the mud and bugs, but not bad and it didn't get broken. Would I do it again with the same light bar - probably not with the newer designs of bumpers if I was going to replace that as well, maybe so if I was going to not replace the bumper.

SDHQ has a few behind the grill options for multiple pod lights I might pursue. I was worried about the heat from the light and the wind being blocked from the radiator, but I was told those two things aren’t an issue.

Did the light have a good spread or did it work more like a spot light? I have a 20 inch spot in the bumper that I could change to a driving/combo lens if that’s the case. (ADD bumper)

For my use, spots but had enough side to side spread when used with the high beams. Ditch lights would have been nice, but not necessary. I was not racing, used mostly for driving rural highways with more cattle and wildlife than vehicles and off road stuff that required light and taking care of equipment rather than testing it. Not sure this answers, but it worked for me. For reference at night, I could see Angus cows (black) in the barrow pits on each side of the road and in between soon enough to slow down from 70 mph and drive around them. (If there'd been more, there'd have been some damage.) I didn't see the deer running across the field (ditch lights!) until they were clearing the fence and came down the bank. Between their speed, and my light and brakes we went our separate ways.
