Decided to try the K&N snorkel after not being able to find anyone post about it. Every dealer stated it would work with the stock airbox. It does not. Ordered the required K&N intake. Snorkel was scary to install due to the drilling, luckily my holes were good. Intake was another story. The intake pipe appears to be a clamshell 2 piece tube that was plastic welded at the seams. Put a flashlight inside and discovered 10+ holes throught the entire tube. And the solution for vacuum lines are very poorly done. I "rewelded" the seams until my replacement tube comes in. And lastly I really disliked the colored K&N logo on the snorkel hat so I sanded it down and sprayed in flat black. Sound wise it is obnoxiously loud. Been in trailhunters with the snorkel and this is easily twice the volume of turbo noises. Dont regret it as I prefer the more traditional snorkel look over the trailhunters setup and I will experiment with how to lower induction noise. Seen some people use low density foam to absorb some of the sound.

The trailhunter is not a snorkel. There's a difference. It's a raised air intake. Not sure why everyone keeps calling it a snorkel.

What that being said. Nice setup. Hopefully it actually functions a snorkel and can take water.

Keep making your truck unique. 👍

It is not designed to take water, at least the intake portion of the setup. The snorkel is fully sealed and attaches to a idiotic designed open top airbox. All the information on sites selling the snorkel state it adapts to the stock airbox but it does not. I was forced to buy the matching intake to use the snorkel. They include a blockoff plate to "SEAL" the intake so it draws air only from the snorkel. But the intake lid is open and not sealed so it is all marketing BS. I bought for looks so I am not mad. Getting OTT tuned this weekend so I am excited to see how big a difference the removal of torque limits in lower gears helps with the 35 inch tires.

I've yet to see an actual snorkel for these trucks yet. All the aftermarker (and oem) air boxes allow for air to be pulled from the front or top of the box itself. That means no matter the intake, its just a little tube is just for looks or sound. The majority of the air, especially on a turbocharged engine is going to take the path of least resistance. Aka the shortest path. That includes the trailhunter.

It does look cool though. Thanks for the thread to give the heads up.
