Manual Transmission issues?

I have over 3000 miles and good to go. I would also like to ask about a transmission fluid upgrade? Is a superior product such as amsoil recommended? Will it smooth up the shifts? What is everyone doing about there transmission fluids in the MT?

Just wanted toss some fresh info on this thread for future ̶v̶i̶c̶t̶i̶m̶s̶ thread readers.

I have a 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport 6MT. I'm the second owner. Purchased it with 11650km / ~7240mi. At around 22250km / ~13825mi what happened to the TW-thread OP happened to me. Around 3 weeks ago I was pulling out of a parking lot and tried shifting into second and just got gear grinding. Had to go 1st to 3rd. 4th would barely catch. Same with 6th. Was like the bottom row of gears dropped down and inch or something and was barely grabbing, if at all. I could only go into 2nd from a complete stop.

Found this thread (and subsequently the TW thread) and it saved me a load of anxiety knowing it has happened to others.

Took it to Toyota on July 21st.Transmission was on back ordered of course. They got it in yesterday and replaced it this morning. Truck is driving like new now.

I honestly hope mine shits the bed while in warranty, and it's probably worth an extended warranty if not. There are used transmissions on eBay from salvage yards if it comes to that, but IMO, Toyota should issue a recall.

I went full Amsoil at ~5k miles and I'm glad I did, just like engines, there is definitely break in material in the driveline to flush out. I always feel like fresh fluid makes for smoother shifting, but after a few fluid heat cycles I wouldn't say it's any better. I do have a bit of a syncro catch going into 2nd, but not any of the other gears, and that only emphasizes my hope of a warranty replacement.

For anyone wondering. All the Driveline Fill and Drain Plugs are M18x1.5 Thread pitch, EXCEPT the Front Diff Drain, that's M24 x 1.5 TP. Surprisingly, the Trans and Transfer case did not have magnetic drain plugs.
I swapped the Front diff Drain to a Cap head style drain plug, and will use the non-magnetic drain plug from the Trans or Trasfer case for the Front Diff Fill plug next time I flush fluids and add magnetic drain plugs.
