Ya, I got it. Where would we be as a society without people like you to keep us all well informed!FYI "manual mode" on the autos isn't truly a manual gear shift.
It's a limiter.

I can't say for certain on the TH since it's a hybrid and I have the OR. But, on the autos, the "manual" mode acts as a gear limiter. So say you switch it over to the manual mode where it says S3 by default. This means that the truck will limit itself to a maximum of 3rd gear. Shift up to 5 and it will limit the truck to 5th gear and so on.Hi, Mr. Max:
I have driven all my life in cars and trucks with manual transmissions and have never liked the automatic.
I have a 24 Trailhunter, and, of course, I downshift it all the time, and it makes me happy.
Now, I am an idiot when it comes to mechanics, and you seem to be a knowledgeable guy.
What is it that I am really doing by downshifting this baby? It does slow the truck down and it saves a lot of brake pads. I also think it charges the battery when going down to 2 gears and the foot of the brake, especially downhill.
Am I right? Does it limit the life of the transmission?
Please let me know.
Thanks a lot
Gaston
