I got the base package off road in May and I've been struggling with the spekaers. No power, no depth.. Just pretty anemic overall. I was hoping to be able to add some bass and nice speakers for $1500 installed or so, but I quickly learned that is not really the reality. Here is what I've put together for the upcoming install. I will be having a local shop with great reviews install this all sometime this week when the box arrives:

Well keep us posted and I would love to know the labor cost if you would DM me when complete. I am trying to find someone local to do the install. Having a problem as they all want to just push this brand or that brand. They don't want me supplying my own gear. They are really all over the board so my want for a new system basically fizzled out.

Labor I believe is $125 an hour with the following breakdown:
5 channel: $400
DSP $300
Front Sound dead: $150/side
Rear Sound dead: $100/ side
Comp. Speakers: $180
Coax Speakers: $100
Subwoofer: $50

Totally understand what you're running into. Have you considered going mobile installer routes? Maybe go on an AV enthusiast forum and find someone local that does great work?

Also to be clear, I am buying all of this hardware from the local store. They're able to beat Ctrutchfields prices and still make some money, so doesn't really matter to me who I buy it from, as long as my shop is there to warranty anything that goes wrong.

Speaking to my local guy that has 25 years of experience, he loves Hertz and Focal speakers, JL or Hertz woofers, and this specific Audison 5 channel amp. I'm prioritizing clean, high quality sound over power here.

Did you get his installed? Every one I have seen hits the bottom of the seat. Are you planning on cutting out the seat plastic like they recommend?

I did have this installed! I'm absolutely floored by this setup, it sounds freaking incredible.

To answer your question, the installer used the groundshaker box linked above directly in the storage tray, no cutting. It seems to fit fine but I've pretty much kept the rear driver seat buttoned up to get more flow from the sub. I'll try playing around with the seat down and see how it fits and report back.

The installers ran into quite a bit of issues due to the unfamiliarity with the 4g and apparently the poor information in their service work books. I don't know all the exact technicals, but their book told them that NON-JBL systems like mine don't have an amplifier when they actually do. This caused some issues regarding wiring. They tried to use a PAC AP4-TY14, despite PACs website stating that this was only for JBL systems and NOT for base but it didn't work.

After that, they went with the original plan to install a JL Fix 86 (not sure why they strayed from this originally, lots of moving pieces.)

I dropped it off on Wednesday at 9:30am and I had the truck back at noon on Friday. When I went to pick it up, it was incredibly underwhelming. There was no power going to the speakers and the sub was barely moving, essentially dead. TLDR, the Fix86 was defective. It worked, but the system memory was corrupted or something, so the installer would set the eq settings but once the truck powered off, all the work was forgotten. So he retunes it, gets the system powered, speakers and woofer amplified, and its sounding pretty good, or atleast I thought it did.

I drive home enjoying the music and stop at chipotle for lunch. When I turn the truck back on to drive home, the amplifier was dead again. Great! Drive back to the store.. Thats when they discovered the defective Fix86. Luckily he had another unit in hand, swapped it out and it was great. This new unit showed just how faulty the first one was. It was only delivering half power. So he retunes it and I'm on my way. Everything is perfect!

Fast forward two hours. I'm about to go out to dinner with my girlfriend. I get in the truck, and instantly I'm hearing the weirdest, loud, booming, underwater subwoofer frequency. Hard to describe, but sounded like a monster truck running at 100mph over washboard roads or something. Just womp womp womp, but extremely loud and deep bass tones. It would increase in volume when I would hit the throttle or start moving. Like harmonic vibrations within the chassis being amplified at super low frequencies. At this point I was absolutely furious. I've now spent $5200 on this system and all I've seen is seemingly incompetency and problems. I sigh many times and order an uber. The truck didn't seem drivable like this, it sounded like I was going to blow the woofer.

So next morning I disconnect the sub (the box is a very tight fit but actually slides out to the front relatively easily..) which kills the amplified sounds, but it's still throwing the sound through the speakers.

So, long story short, their shitty work book didn't tell them anything about ANC (active noise cancellation) or the three microphones in the roof liner. I had already disabled ANC through Carista months ago, but apparently this wasn't enough.

We do have a happy ending though! I am ABSOLUTELY THRILLED with this setup. I shit you not, its the clearest, crispest, most amazing sounding car audio system I've ever heard in my life. Super clean, no rattles, excellent installation. Body panels are all in great shape. Despite all the "new generation truck" bullshit, these guys killed it, and I would absolutely recommend them in the future.

Wow glad you like it. Reading this gives me even more pause however. Maybe I will wait until my truck wont be the first 4G a shop is doing.

I would do it again in a heartbeat, fwiw.

Oh, and I went and took a look at the rear seat when in a down position. It's a very tight fit but it closes flush. I wanted to retain the OEM look, but it's completely useless now outside of aesthetics. That said, I still think it would look a lot better with the tray still in.

I never have passengers in the back and have a smartcap for storage, so I'm totally good with rocking the seat up.

How did you end up fixing the ANC problem?
Installer was able buy a supplement for his scan tool to turn off the setting again (though I'm pretty sure it was always off...)

He also physically unplugged the microphones. You just pop the little cap off and it's right there with a plug in harness.
