Mods so far, ceramic coat, vinyl protectors, front tint match. 32" maxxis tires on pro comp rims and a hard bed cover. The rims came off my 23 that got totalled. Going with a 2.5 inch ready lift kit once my local les schwab gets the software to align it and maybe a roof rack.
Saw that @KB Voodoo Voodoo put 35 inch Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT on Method 305 Double Black Wheels on their 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport.
"The lift is a Westcott (our install shop had some alignment questions and they were very helpful over the phone).
The truck feels great with 35's, definitely not as detrimental as I feared it may be. Power is still great, way better than our 2020 Pro on 265/75r16 (31.6" diameter).
Overall I like the new power plant a lot better than the 3rd gen V6. No more revving to 4500 RPM's just to get up a hill. We're looking forward to testing it out with a trailer."
Well it was a long drive(1800) miles to get my truck, but it is now in my possession. I got these off road wheels used from eBay for a steal and I hyper dipped the front emblem and the badging. I also changed out the shift knob and replaced the polyurethane wheel with a leather wrapped one from a tundra. I also installed the black chrome tip and the tailgate inserts. I am going to probably get the side windows tinted soonish, but that is enough money spent for now on it. If anyone wants a certain photo or has a question on the Xtracab I can probably answer it now. So, my review well I stopped at in n out as soon as I got it to eat and use the restroom before the long drive and I am getting out of the truck for the first time ever , and a 3rd gen owner in the line rolls down his window to say it's a nice truck. I wish I was making this story up it's so unbelievable but it happened. So, it catches some eyes I think that is the truck as a whole not just the Xtracab mind you, but it's cool to see. Now I have used lane keep assist on a rental 2020ish something Chevy Malibu one time, so let me say this lane keep is a whole different world better. it keeps well and with the radar cruise control it drives itself on the highway. At first I thought I would hate it/not use it or care, but now I don't know if I can ever buy a vehicle that doesn't have it ever again, so I have to give Toyota props. The ride is nice I test drove a sr5 double cab with the coils in the back as suspected this felt more stiff, but it's very very minor. As others have said the 8 inch is fine and I can live with it, (its alot nicer in person) but I still wish I had the option from factory to get the 14 and still may replace it one day. I also plan to get a wrap on the fenders or real fender flares in black I haven't decided yet, but I am still thinking. Like I said any questions feel free to ask. It's a good truck.
Backstory
Finally posting a more formal introduction after passing 1k miles and getting the build going. Joined a waitlist about a year ago after cross-shopping nearly every vehicle imaginable. Traded in a Grand Cherokee V8 due to growing concerns about reliability and the fuel efficiency was pretty terrible. Previously had owned a Canyon Denali long bed diesel, but it was uninspiring and lost faith in GM reliability. The ultimate goal was to find a comfortable, reliable, somewhat efficient vehicle to do some mild overlanding and occasionally tow/haul. Considered new Canyon, new Ranger, 4Runner, Tundra, etc. Will never consider a Jeep again..
Test Drive, Initial Concerns, Purchase
We were nervous following our test drive because the ride in the TRD OR didn't feel great, realizing afterward the tires were definitely overinflated as mine was delivered with 50psi several weeks later. Dealer had no clue. Dropping the tire pressure quickly solved those concerns. We were also surprised how small the 5ft bed felt with the larger proportions of the 4Gen and questioned how usable it would be for camping and overlanding. Switched my deposit from TRD OR short bed w/ upgrade pkg to a base TRD OR long bed w/ 14" screen and heated seats. Purchased through the Costco Auto program and paid a few thousand below MSRP.
Impressions so far
The entire platform has exceeded expectations! The ride is so much more composed and comfortable than the air suspension I'd gotten used to in the Jeep. It's also significantly quieter than the Jeep at all speeds despite the Jeep having double paned front side glass. I'll keep this section short as there's so much information out there covering the truck. Absolutely zero regrets and looking forward to putting the Tacoma through its paces! 100% worth the long wait!
Local to the PNW.. really haven't seen many 4Gens yet. This past weekend drove past an Underground TRD OR w/ roof rack and bed rack on I90 near Snoqualmie Pass. If you read this (or anyone who has the same build) truck looks awesome!
Overland: Roofnest Condor 2, 8" Billie Bars, bed stiffeners
BAK Revolver X4s ordered. Supposed to ship next week but I'm skeptical based on the responses I've gotten from RealTruck about whether or not it's actually available.
Future mods
Short term: bed mat, weathertech, running boards, leveling kit, Binize
Long term: JB4, AT4W or KO3, DIY heated steering wheel, audio upgrade
This is my SR MT 4X4 with 275 70r17 Toyo Trail RT's on Method MR705 17x8.5 +35mm offset. Leveling kit is in the garage and needs installed. Ask any questions if you'd like!
I only saw one other post with 285/65R18 BFG KO2s so I thought I'd share mine also. I can confirm no rubbing and a smooth ride.
I plan on adding the black XP wheels once they come off of backorder. They have a 45 offset and 8 inches wide vs the stock is 55 offset and 7.5 inches wide. That should give it close to 3/4 inch more poke. Which I think will be perfect for someone who doesn't want to go too far out.
