what would you guys do if you don't put 5k miles on in 6 months? two changes a year still?

I changed at 1,000 miles after 6-months ownership. then at 4,000 miles on the truck's first birthday. I've yet to hit 5,000 miles in the truck and about to hit 1.5 years ownership. wondering if I should just do every 6 months, even though that will be like an interval of between 1-2k miles.
I’d test the oil with SPEEDiagnostix to see if it’s too early to change it, or if you’re in a sweet spot.

Drive it like I stole it and still wouldn't go over 5k between oil changes. I am planning to run a larger oil filter to help with filtration .

Ya but I saw a video that we should do everytime at the 3000 mark. Also do we do a break in, some say no some yes? Does it matter if I live in a warm or cold state, does that make it less or more frequent? How often do I post this question boys? Straighten me out!
I would do a break in such as no long length same speed cruising. Short power bursts up and down every 5 miles or so, then if you are near hills/mountains do some high boost high EGT break ins. Easier to do with a mnaual though as that ECU will sense high load even in auto manual and kick it down. For oil I would change at 50% (IE 5000miles) using the same grade oil and a Toyota filter. No need to tell the dealer about it. No service reset needed.

Hey guys, so I had a question about oil change frequency. So I've had my 25 TRD Sport for a little over 4 months now. I just hit 7770 miles on it and I was wondering if it would be fine to wait to get an oil change until 10,000 miles. I go the mountains in it almost every weekend and have about a 15 minute commute to work. I head these driving conditions could warrant a change every 5k. When I took her into the dealer for her 5k maintenance I asked the tech about it and she just said it would be fine to holdoff on the oil change until 10k. I honestly do too, but I'm in a lot of groups where guys are doing break in changes at like 1k or 3k so now I'm worried I missed the ball. Looking for second opinions.
How many years/miles do you typically keep a vehicle?

If you're planning to keep it 20 years / 200k miles, then definitely go with the shorter 5k intervals given the turbo, and usually best to let it idle a little before shutting it off.

If you're a trade @ 4 years / 50k miles person, then even with detailed maintenance records you're unlikely to recoup the time/cost in resale.

Also note that the people who hang out on this sort of forum and who will take time to answer your (commonly asked) question will typically be the short-interval folks rather than the factory-interval folks.

My 3rd gen is at almost 108k miles with no issues using the factory interval, but also majority of my driving is longer vs shorter trips. I also plan to move to a 4th gen sometime in the next couple years, so likely won't see it to 130k miles.

I'm of the opinion you or a professional etc should be under your vehicle looking at shit every 6mo anyways just because that's a good interval for inspection. Oil change is like $80 truck was like $40k just do it :like:
Except the kid doing the oil changes isn't their top mechanic...

Haven't gotten that far yet, I believe it was in last week's topics. I know it's a genuine Toyota filter shown.
