I've noticed my 4th gen paint chips more easily than my 3rd gen, specifically in the back fender area that protrudes.

Has anyone else noticed this? Any solutions?

For this big spot, I think I'll have to hit it with some kind of clear coat to prevent rust

Common problem for a lot of us! I used touch up paint for mine on the bigger ones and put some PPF on those sections that get peppered to keep it from getting worse.

As TNA said, touch-up paint followed by PPF. You can buy it by the roll on Amazon and watch a YouTube video for installation.
