Based on the Oil Geek's UOA on his SR5's diff oil changed at 5000mi I decided to do it earlier than the 30,000mi I was planning. I really don't have any regrets at all. As you can see from the photos, there was some metal in there that was probably from manufacturing that was caught by the magnet doing it's job. However, when pouring the used oil out, you can see that it is absolutely saturated with glitter. This is typical for break-in but TOG shows a stat that 82% of part wear is due to particulate contamination, so I'm glad to have done it when I did. If I could do it all over again I would've done it at 5000 miles and then again at 30,000 miles. As with everything, your mileage may vary and you do what you want, but I thought some might be interested in seeing what's going on in there especially if they were possibly gonna skip/delay the 30,000 mile differential oil change. Don't forget there's one in the front too.
