Starting off in 3rd Gear

Hey Everyone,
I have had my trd pro for a little over a week and noticed that anytime I am at a dead stop and switch into the manual mode on the auto tranny, it shows that the truck is in 3rd gear. I have switched it between all of the modes, even in tow mode, and it still starts in 3rd. Any reason for this? Are the first two gears just for 4x4 hi and low?

I believe it is starting in first. But limits the trans to third gear. Not actually starting in third.

Similar to the third gen tacomas that would show S4 but you still were starting in first and limited to fourth gear.

I tested this the other day from a stop in sport mode.

Can anyone else confirm?

I noticed when I put the peddle to the floor at a complete stop the trans bogs down the rpm’s and I go no wear. I now shift manually down to 1st when pulling out into traffic.

It's a shift limiter. It should still start out in first, but won't shift up past 3rd at that setting.
