Tacoma Owner Feedback Wanted: Which MOLLE Accessories Would You Actually Use? | $20 Gift Card

We’re currently developing a truck-bed MOLLE panel accessory system, and before finalizing the accessory package, we’d like to hear directly from Tacoma owners who would actually use it.

The current concept includes:

• Universal mounting base
• Quick Fist straps
• Aluminum alloy clamps
• RotopaX container bracket
• Quick-release fire extinguisher bracket
• Milwaukee toolbox mounting bracket
• Hi-Lift jack mount
• Traction board mount

The goal is to create a modular system that keeps recovery gear, tools, and outdoor equipment secure and organized—without making the truck bed harder to use.

What We’d Like to Know

1. Which of these accessories would you realistically use?
2. Which ones feel unnecessary?
3. What important mounts or accessories are missing?
4. Would you prefer a complete accessory kit or the ability to purchase each mount separately?
5. What matters most: quick removal, theft resistance, load capacity, adjustability, or compatibility with other MOLLE accessories?
6. What equipment do you currently carry in your truck bed, and how do you secure it?

In my 6’ bed, I’ve recently installed MOLLE panel kit from BuiltRight, plus I have the Toyota bed divider, which is a large MOLLE panel. I would use the attachment nut bases, traction board and RotoPax mounts.
If I can get Element Fire extinguishers, I would not use the fire extinguisher mount since Elements are tiny. But if those thieves in U.S. Customs steal my shipment again, then I will give up on Element and get a metal cylinder type fire extinguisher; in that case I would want a mount.

We have several sizes of propane tanks and have had a hard time sourcing mounts that work. We have 10-lb., 5-lb., and 1-lb. that need mounts and WIDE spring steel straps that are easy to adjust.

QuickFist knock-offs are easily bought at Harbor Freight for a couple of dollars. If you sell sets, then perhaps you could compete in an already saturated market. I would suggest differentiating by having them fit into your MOLLE panel system nicely because a lot of them wiggle around.

I use the Klein ModBox system (better and cheaper than Milwaukee IMO). Klein has taken a big market share in the modular, portable toolbox and workbench market. If you develop something to attach Klein modbox items, you will have something that very few or no one else has. BuiltRight already sells a small Milwaukee Packout mount for seatbacks and truck beds. Rather than copycat everything, it would be great if you developed something where there is a significant need that is growing.

I would like a cafeteria style sales approach: pick any 2 for X% discount, pick any 3 for Y% discount… because I dislike the idea of buying a set and then having one item that I can’t use.

Long bed offroad for camping and adventures for me. I already have the OEM molle and am quite happy with the fit, though I do wish it extended closer to the tailgate. Some of these accessories I already have on mine, like quick fists and fire extinguisher mounts.

  • the universal mounting base, quick fists, alloy straps, and fire extinguisher mount. Good general mounts for even casual users. If I was into heavier offroading I'd probably also want the traction board mounts.
• Which ones feel unnecessary?
  • the milwaukee mount is a very specific branded item, not everyone uses those boxes and therefore many people wouldnt have a use for it. Same with rotopax mounts though to a lesser degree.
• What important mounts or accessories are missing?
  • Maybe a general quick release mount of some kind that had a part you could attach to any box or item you had and the other part went on the molle that would allow you to attach and detach something quickly by just pressing a button or pulling a lever. I love my quick release fire extinguisher mounts and would love that kind of convenience for other items as well.
  • potentially also a magnetic mount of some sort could be useful
  • A mount with straps to hold a larger object
  • maybe a bungee cord net basket thing to stuff items in.
• Would you prefer a complete accessory kit or the ability to purchase each mount separately?
  • I would always prefer separate purchasing, perhaps with a discount for buying several at once. I have specific things I want to achieve with each purchase and dont want to have to buy a whole set of things just to get one or two items I cared about.

  • You'll never stop a determined thief so I would prioritize load capacity, adjustability, and compatibility to make sure customers can use things to achieve any thing they want to with your products

I have a 2025 TRD Sport with a 5’ bed. I use it mainly for daily work, but like to have tools and accessories with me that will help me if I get stuck on the side of the road. Right now I have a cab-side MOLLE panel that has a 300pc Harbor Freight tool set (not the highest quality, I know, but they are meant to be only for a potential emergency. The better tools are in the garage) I also have a weather proof case that stores an inflator, tire plugs, and related stuff. Sure, that could probably be in the cab, but I have the hybrid, so I don’t get under-the-seat storage. Finally, I have a Husky tote with Badlands 1.5T offroad floor jack with breaker bar that I throw in when taking longer drives. My tires are larger than stock, so the weak scissor jack that comes with the truck would be sketchy to use.

Of the listed accessories, I would likely use the universal nut, quick strap, aluminum alloy, and the Milwaukee tool box mount. While a fire extinguisher is important to have, leaving it in the bed, even under a tonneau, seems like it could cause issues with longevity in the temperature changes. I would have that inside the cab, out of the elements. I went with the off road floor jack over a hi-lift jack because I do not do extreme off-roading, and I think it would be more of a hindrance than a help for a normal flat tire deal. The traction board mount can be helpful if people are going to the beach, soft ground, etc. but I feel a majority of owners will not be needing to mount them. The Milwaukee mount is great to make sure small pieces don’t fall out and roll around everywhere, but you would be creating a mount for one specific item. If people prefer something different, or Milwaukee changes systems, that design would prove to be obsolete. I, however, am a sucker for Milwaukee products, so that would probably get my attention though. All of the universal mounts are great at adapting to fit many uses, but the universal one I use for the tool kit only lets me attach it by the handle to the rack, which isn’t great, but it works. I personally prefer things that are less universal, more tailored for my specific item because it ends up fitting better and having nicer presentation, but I’m sure others would prefer one mount that would work for the most things possible and not care how good or bad it looks.

For my use of the bed, I think it would be nice to see some sort of mount to accommodate various waterproof cases like Pelican, SKB, Apache, etc. While the universal or quick fist straps can work, something similar to the design of the Milwaukee one that supports from the body of the case, rather than just grabbing the handle would be nice. Something like a C-shaped bracket that goes around the cases maybe? While many people have tonneaus and bed caps, there is always some sort of water intrusion along with being able to organize small things into the cases rather than throwing in the bed and rolling around would be nice. Sure, there is the Milwaukee mount, but some more important or larger things would go into waterproof cases that could have custom foam inserts for that person’s specific set up. I have also seen some companies that have come out with bike mounts that go into the front bed rail to secure the forks in place. Maybe something like that would be helpful so people can still have the MOLLE capability and the bike mounting point?

I would prefer to buy the mounts I want and not an entire kit. If you were to make it a requirement to pick at least three items to order, or something like that I wouldn’t mind it. If you sold a complete kit, and I didn’t think of a way to use every one (or maybe one short of every one) I would feel like I wasted money. Depending on the size of the extra parts, I would then have to find somewhere to store them, or try finding somebody to buy the miscellaneous remaining parts, which would turn me off from buying.

In today's day and age, if somebody wants your stuff badly enough they are going to take it regardless of how you store it. When increasing the theft resistance of a mount, you are very likely increasing how difficult it would be for the actual user to remove them as well. How easily it is for me to access the item, and then re-secure it is the most important thing to me. I don’t want to spend just as much time unloading and loading the item as I spend using it. I want the mount to be easy to secure and remove, and provide enough adjustability where I can set it up how I want, and not be required to use an exact coordinate on the MOLLE panel or else it won’t work. Load capacity is also important, but doesn’t need to be insane. I don’t need it to be able to hold 500lbs, but it should be able to hold an array of objects that you plan to have mounts for. If somebody mounted a hi lift jack, they should be able to still hold a fire extinguisher and pack out, or other combinations not just single items. Maybe that would be 100lbs? 50lbs?
