Oh boy, let’s be honest. They both have flaws. I’ve owned 5 Toyota trucks over the years and numerous Jeeps. I recently got out of a Jeep Gladiator and into a new Tacoma. There are some things that the Gladiator does better than a Tacoma and there are a few things the Tacoma does better than a Gladiator. Don’t get all wrapped up and blinded by brand loyalty. They both suck at times. Towing a 15-ish year old Jeep with a new Tacoma is hardly proving anything. Especially one of the least liked model Jeeps ever produced,. Geez.

Short story I was all about jeeps then my YJ started having issues ,leaks ect. so I bought a new TJ.
60K miles and then oil leaks, exhaust manifold issues and steering. I got stuck in the desert with my kids and I was over it. I always Liked Toyota Trucks and said yes. I bought a 2007 FJ Cruiser and my son still drives it to this day off road. I've had a gen 2 and drove it for years with no issues.
My gen 4 takes me places and gets me HOME. All my Toyotas have and I do not even worry. No more jeeps for me...

At first I was going to reply how a Tacoma vs Liberty is like a Rubicon vs RAV4, but then I realized that’s not what OP was suggesting. The comparison is about build quality and quality control. The Jeep broke down. “It’s a Jeep thing."

I want to like Jeeps. I have a 2dr; it’s a lot of fun to drive. There’s stuff it can do better than any competitor. But
Stellantis has done what it can to minimize costs and maximize profits, and it shows in the engineering and production quality.

My clutch alone had 3 recalls due to fire risk, and their fix isn’t a new clutch design but software to guess if your clutch might be overheating. A significant portion of the 3.6L pentastars (current version not previous) will have a blown head gasket and/or will eat its own cams by 100K miles. They didn’t properly heat shield the coolant tank for their 2.4L turbo, and it cracking is common enough people carry a spare when off-roading. They proved they still need a lot of effort to get a hybrid that won’t burn down your house with the 4xe. I could keep on going.

Yes, the current Toyota has its QC issues too (TRD Off Road shocks for one), but they seem to be able to design a vehicle that can make it 200,000 miles without major repairs, and I just don’t see that out of Jeep.
