2025 TRD Off Road
Trying to decide between two tires.

Nitto Terra Grappler G3
Falken Wildpeak AT4
285/70/17

I’d assume I’d need SL or C load. Truck lives in Southern Utah. I don’t wheel or off-road much aside from getting to hunting spots and mountain bike trail heads.

mainly looking for an aggressive look (for an AT) and lighter weight which the g3 seems to be lighter

I went BFG KO3 on my daily driver Tacoma and my F350
I know they were not on your list…….

I drive in Northern Utah and will see a fair amount of snow, all the reviews I have checked out show the bfg to perform better that the 2 you have listed on wet and snowy roads

I have been very happy with BFG AT KO2 on jeep and F350 in the past and running Toyo open country 3 on wife Yukon with excellent performance year round as well.

ultimately you get what you like best, it’s your money and you need to be content with whatever you go with

Same Here. I also have the BFG KO3's and I absolutely love them. Now granted, I am old School with the white letters out but that can easily be fixed by turning them inside. The ride is great and the noise is minimal. I have had multiple BFG's and I have been pleased with them overall. Just my two cents.

I have the Terra grappler G3‘s. They’re a good highway tire and excellent in the wet and snow. I haven’t noticed excessive noise at highway speeds.

I went with the Terra Grappler G3s in the same size you mentioned 285/70/r17. My reasoning was keepin the SL rating. I have similar usage as you so I didn't want to add extra weight since I don't go off-road too often (maybe once a month) and I'm not trying to get too crazy on the rocks.

Not sure if this is well known, but the absolute least expensive way to get into a 285/70r17 is Jeep Gladiator Rubicon take offs. Wildpeak AT4W’s come stock on them, but everyone wants 37’s and up on the Jeeps.

I picked up a set of 5 wheels and tires with <5k miles for $600 via marketplace, had my local shop switch out the wheels, and I’m in it for less than half what you’d pay for the tires new. Will be even less once I sell the 5 free Rubicon wheels.

The Falken’s themselves are great, I drove a rocky 5/10 onX trail this weekend with no issues and tons of grip. Can’t speak to performance in the rain or snow yet, but I’ve heard only good things.

KO3 if you don't see much snow. Fantastic tire but it is a desert racing tire by design. Can't beat the look!

If you live somewhere that sees snow then the two tires below are 3 peak mountain snow flake rated, have good ride quality, always balance well, and are head and shoulders above any of their competition.

Toyo Open Country AT3
(After over 25 years in independent shops and dealerships these are the only two light duty truck tires I will even consider at present. I now always opt for the Toyo as they always balance out amazing, ride great, and are a little lighter than the Falken)

There are many other good tires. Conti/General make some good tires. I've run Conti terrain contact a/t tires with great luck. I've largely starting steering away from Nitto for a number of reasons but it is a brand I would no longer recommend to anyone.
