Trd Pro / Trailhunter engine airfilter

Did anyone ever find the cheap paper version for the TRD air filter. I just want to have one on hand for when I need to clean and oil the OE one. From what I have gathered, I can use the K&N clean and oil kit, it that correct? Or does Toyota have a kit of their own?

I just got a spare filter (took 6 months) and on top of it was a sticker with a link to this page, which explains the Toyota cleaning process and their cleaning products kit:

I have a TRD Pro filter in at the dealer I ordered months ago I haven't gone to pick up yet, give me a few hours and maybe I'll have the part number for you, it's $130 CND

Finally got into the dealership to pick up my air filter it was $147 after taxes Canadian Toyota doesn’t have the part numbers to order them so it took a lot of digging

Just picked up a second to have in rotation for cleaning as well. Same thing, dealer had some trouble tracking down the correct part number, but eventually came in after a couple weeks.

Side question for you guys with the PRO: where does your air intake box pull air from? Can you take a Pic of the inside of your air intake box without the filter and a couple pics of the intake box outside? I am wondering if the Trailhunter air box is same/similar since there is a rubber plug on the bottom front that can be removed and is a little bigger than the active intake hole the high intake snorkel feeds. I'd like to open the plugged hole and plug the snorkel at the intake box so I don't have to listen to it with the windows down.

The air filter should be the exact same as the trail hunter, let me pull my truck in out of the rain again and see if I can get you pictures, the air filter housing is not the easiest to put back together

So it looks like it has the provisions for the high desert ram intake or whatever they call it, and it also looks like there’s a silicone or rubber plug covering it up, air comes from the grill sealed from engine bay debris

Thanks for the photos. It confirms they are the same, just with a different routing for airflow. I wonder if you can get just the front portion that pulls air from the front grill. More research...

Oh look at that, interesting! I bet you could, I think when I was looking at the schematic Toyota had up the fender plug was listed as a part and the front portion would be as well, I didn’t have a very good time with the part counter today so maybe I can help another day

When I picked up my 2nd filter, the parts counter showed me the Toyota filter cleaning kit had been discontinued and told me they just buy the K&N filter cleaning kits. So that's what I did.
