Scheduled brake line recall and had the 1st of the 2 "free" new truck services. I had the oil & filter done at 5 K but figured what the heck. Dropped of the truck in the morning picking it up around 4 pm so they wouldn't be rushed and had them rotate the wheels and do oil & filter. This was my first trip to the dealer and found the people explained the procedure and answered questions.
Two days later I'm on the highway at speeds from 50 to 80 and notice I seem to have lost my smooth ride. No problem I think, the road is not smooth. I change routes and I have the same jittering. I'm thinking two possibilities, loose lug nuts or wheel weights fell off. I checked the nuts which were ok.
The following day I return to dealer and play stupid explaining my issue. Service guy tells me he will get the mechanic to go for a ride with me but returns to tell me that often times its necessary to balance the wheels again. I said I had two trucks that each season snow and summer tires were swapped without balancing no problem. He told me Toyota would not pay to balance. So I told him to rotate them again back to where they were. I'll be on interstate tomorrow and hope I have a smooth ride; if not I'll be pi$$ed.

I would call that more of a dealer problem than Toyota for all the times I've had to have extra or careful attention to balance and alignment, and subset you check tire pressure because the dealers often over inflate tires. Some of my good fortune might be the dealer nearest my home gets the Toyota Presidential award, and they honestly do a good job against many dealers.

This can make all the difference for problem solving. I can laugh and smile over it. Our own attitude and ways can make all the difference with getting good results. In a circle of associates all using same Toyota, Subaru and Euro brands dealer, two of us always get more. Even if we don't feel it inside, we are super friendly and approach it all with a "How can I help you solve this?" attitude. You can still have problems but that has helped me get bothersome matters fixed.

For Toyotas, you probably need a "Haweka" or pin-plate balancing done. Some places don't have the best equipment nor do they have well trained staff. One time in the past I had a dealer take a vehicle to a shop that had the right setup and skills.

Good luck.

I'm scratching my head. A balanced tire is balanced no matter where it is.
