Entering "Smartass Mode": I think Toyota should send every 24 Tacoma owner a free OBDII code reader, maybe even include the OBDII reader code in the ECM and display real-time results as a choice in the Multi-Display unit. Maybe even integrate the code with the vehicle telemetrics so that when the tranny issue throws a code, those codes enter a real-time order into Toyota Corporate for a replacement transmission, torque converter and hybrid motor to be sent to the dealer closest to the vehicle's location. And order a rental car. And a motel reservation if the vehicle is located more than 60 miles away from the registered address.

You have faith in the replacement transmissions? Seems like they have no clue what’s wrong with them—which makes sense because why would a major auto maker be able to figure out what’s wrong with thousands of transmissions made by their captive supplier?

Has any replacement transmission failed? They've stated more than once that casting debris was the root cause. If that's not the case we should be seeing other failures.

At least one replacement failed for a forum user. He posted for a while and then had to stop because I think Toyota offered him a buyout. That was a while ago, so the replacement could have been in the TSB range too, but it is not a confidence builder.

How do we all start or add on to that lawsuit , I paid cash for my Trailhunter and for it to be considered having a faulty transmission is absurd. Toyota should not be able to get away with this and should take responsibility and be held accountable.

To keep things at the forefront perhaps starting a dedicated thread is in order. Right now a lot of comments are spread over several threads.

Someone should absolutely create a thread just for this. Would be interesting if we could bring it directly to Toyotas attention

I saw this same response to the Tundra Turbo failures, and then the engine failures over the course of 2 years. Sad fact is that we’ll never know any more than Toyota tells us. You won’t get anything special from Toyota and it wont become a recall unless the govt forces a recall.

Hand wringing and long angry internet posts won’t change anything. Just drive and enjoy your truck. If it fails, Toyota will fix it.

Same question. You want Toyota to buy back your truck?

No. I love the truck. And I’m not super torqued up about this honestly, save for when I’m thinking about possibly getting stranded in the middle of nowhere. What would make me happy is a clear statement from Toyota explaining what the issue is and a means for me to resolve it in Houston at a dealership near my home, before I’m out in the bush with my truck that’s made to go anywhere. I am under warranty for 125k miles / 8 years but what I’d like the same confidence in the drivetrain I had with my third gen — I think Toyota could restore it with some transparency. But anyway. Moving on.
